Tuesday afternoon's dark clouds produced little rain, but plenty of wind and lightning, keeping area firemen busy. Lightning is believed to be the cause of the fire that started in Elizabeth Snyder's pasture south of Maywood. Randy Arent, rents the ground from Snyder and figured there was approximately two acres of dry grass and cedar trees that burned. Firefighters from Maywood, Wellfleet and Red Willow Western responded to the plume of smoke that could be seen from several miles away...

"And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins....But Christ has indeed been raised, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." (I Corinthians 15:17, 20) Just as the women in Scripture made their way early on the first day of the week to the tomb, celebrants of the empty tomb will make their way to a variety of special services all across Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas. ...

The answer is easy to see
(Column ~ 04/12/06)

Proud symbol
(Letter to the Editor ~ 04/12/06)
It was with interest that I read your story about the team mascots. After being a loyal "Bison" fan, I became a McCook College "Indian" fan, a term I did not know to be degrading, as we were very proud of our teams. I now live in Aniak, Alaska, and the residents of this village are equally as proud of their "Halfbreeds," a mascot picked by the students several years ago...

Privitization
(Letter to the Editor ~ 04/12/06)
Dear Editor: Ronald Reagan once said "outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or as economical as the private sector." I believe this same philosophy is the exact direction the City of McCook needs to take. Any operation the city is presently involved in, other than public safety, could be and should be looked at either to sell or privatize the management of...

Common Sense
(Letter to the Editor ~ 04/12/06)
Dear Editor, If the commissioners had the taxpayers interests in mind they would sit down with the Lincoln County commissioners and build a regional jail in Maywood. With the upfront costs and operational costs shared the taxpayers and the region would reap the benefits. But that would require common sense and compromise so ... never mind...

I guess old-school objective journalism is a thing of the past. This paper is begging to be treated as a hayseed tabloid rather than an attempt at honest journalism. ...
