Busy week starts today

The arrival today of two World War II bombers kicks off a busy week of Heritage Days activities. The Commemorative Air Force's B-29 "Fifi" and B-24 "Diamond Lil" touched down about 11:30 a.m. today for a weeklong stay at the McCook Municipal Airport. Plane and cockpit tours will be available daily Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A "PX" also will be set up for those who wish to support the activities of the CAF through purchase of souvenirs...

The McCook Tribune issues of July and August, 1891, report on the locations of Charles Jesse "Buffalo" Jones' buffalo herd. The July 31 Tribune said that they were "again located" on school section #16 about one mile north and east of McCook. The same news clipping said that Jones' buffalo calves were brought up from Indianola at the end of the previous week. The number varies ... but the number was generally referred to as being from 70-85 head...
