It's easy and popular to make promises. It's the keeping of them that is tough. Such is often the case in Washington D.C., where a promise too often is only as good as the next election. We may become so jaded to empty promises that we don't really expect politicians to keep them...

I, for all of the time I spend writing, and for all of the enjoyment I derive from stringing words together, am often a terrible correspondent. I think of birthday remembrances missed, wedding wishes not sent, letters of condolence, composed in my mind yet never set down on paper, and of course, thank you notes...
