Community wants to hear group's plan

After a great deal of discussion and debate, the McCook City Council has agreed to give the Concerned Citizens four meetings -- of up to four hours each -- to fully explain the group's plan for solving McCook's water quality and supply problems. Those meetings are scheduled Nov. 26-29 at the Senior Center, starting at 6:30 p.m. and lasting as late as 10:30 p.m. each night...

The English language is fraught with pitfalls. Deadlines. I don't know who came up with such a distasteful, threatening term. The very word evokes fear, tension and stress. What happens if I miss my deadline? If I cross that line, does that mean that I'm dead? During the week that I pinch-hitted for our vacationing editor, I came perilously close to finding out precisely what havoc results when the "deadline" is crossed. ... -

E. Evelyn Martin E. Evelyn Martin, 76, died Wednesday (Nov. 6, 2001) at Community Hospital of McCook. She was born Oct. 21, 1925, at Lawrence to Alfred and Jane (Hannum) Roth. The family moved to Frontier County in 1932. She graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis and McCook College. She taught school for more than 20 years...
