The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has released a report saying there will be one hunter killed and 10 injured in hunting accidents this year. Statistically, that's only 0.011 percent of the estimated 100,000 hunters who will hit the fields Saturday morning. There's not much of a chance of it happening to "me."...

What do you prefer: Standard Time, Daylight Saving Time, or the system now in effect in Nebraska and Kansas, whereby Daylight Saving Time is in effect from April through October, and Standard Time is practiced the other five months of the year? It's been subject of debate since 1907, when the idea of Daylight Saving Time was first introduced by William Willett of England in a book called, "The Waste of Daylight." Judging from this week's editorial board meeting at the McCook Daily Gazette, we're no closer to an agreement now than we were when the subject was first introduced 94 years ago.. ...

For the life of me, I can't understand how these two words ever got linked together in the context that we hear most often. Too much sex and violence on television and in the movies, too much violence and sex in records and magazines and books. Too much sex and violence, violence and sex and it's ruining the minds of our young people...

Joe Trimmer, whose grocery store was the first door north of the ice plant (106 West 3rd Street) was advertised as the "Bargain Spot of McCook." Additionally, Joe was open Sunday mornings. On April 3, 1942, he was offering new cabbage at 3 cents a pound and new beets at 5 cents a pound but fresh rhubarb would cost you 13 cents a pound. Lemons were 25 cents a dozen but his gooseberries and blackberries came in a can...
