Nicknames
Nicknames are something most of us have. Some are pet names or nicknames we may earn. The name everyone knows me by is actally a nickname.
As the family lore has it, I was named after my dad's two sisters. My name is the middle names of my aunts. Now my cousins on my mom's side decided to start to call me 'Lizzie' when I was a toddler. Well, apparently that did not set well with my parental units. They decided on 'Betsy' if I was to have a nickname.
I have been called Betsy so long that is it odd to hear someone call me Elizabeth. Plus, I most always have to explain the reason for the nickname because people don't usually associate Betsy with being a nickname for Elizabeth.
Betsy isn't difficult to spell either in theory. Well, at least to me. I have seen it spelled Betsey, Betsie, Besty, Bestie, Beasty (okay that was a valentine in elementary school . Funnier now than it was then.) You get the picture.
Now the husband was Donnie when he was younger. He was DC to the high school buds. I refer to him as The Donald often in writing. Technically that is not a nickname but give me a little latitude here.
There are the times when life events earn us other names to add to our nicknames. And I will qualify the next bit of information. I asked for and was granted permission to share what will be the newest addition to my nickname. Come mid-February I will get to be Nana B or Grandmama B or whatever that little bundle of joy wants to call me! And technically that means The Donald will be The Grandpa. That also means our K-kid will be Auntie K.
Right now, I am already in love with the reason for the nickname. Plus the Mom and Dad-to-be get kudos for having Grandbaby #1 make the grand appearance between football and track seasons. (Just kidding)
Congratulations to the newest member of the parents-to-be club. You will love your new nicknames too, Mommy and Daddy.
