Class Reunion - Bah Humbug
As the title of the blog entry implies - Bah Humbug... If you enjoy class reunions - then please stop and click away because I don't believe you will like this entry very much.
What is the purpose of having a reunion with your high school classmates? Rhetorically speaking as usual.
Not to say that high school totally sucked because I loved the learning part. I just wasn't keen on all the social maneuvering and nastiness which is part of the whole package. I have never understood it and honestly have not and will not attend my own class reunion. I have attended with hubby, HIS reunions, but again I didn't graduate with any of his classmates. His class is due this summer for a 30 year reunion but haven't heard if there is going to be a special event or they will just be doing the all-school reunion at this point.
My class had the distinction of having attended all four years in the "new school". The old one burned down do to electrical issues when I was in fifth grade. My class was the first class that attended the completed campus all four years. Prior to that classes were scattered around town in various churches and halls until the buildings were finished.
We also had the largest class to date back in the stone age thanks to the influx of workers building the power plant northeast of town. The absolutely great thing about having the new kids in school was it shook up the social order. Many of them had attended several schools over the years as they attended where ever their parents job took them. They didn't give a rats behind who was who or who thought they were 'all that.'
But again, I don't think I have any obligation to spend my free time with former classmates. I spent 12 years with some. Thirteen with those ones who attended kindergarten at Mrs. D's. That was plenty.
Now my roommate from college had an intriguing idea. She put the word out to her classmates wondering is they would do a 'destination' reunion. They would have a reunion but somewhere other that their hometown. I kidded her by asking her if I could join her class because the idea of putting everyone on neutral footing after 30 years - well, that I might get my head around.
Again, I don't like to rain on the parade of those people out there who like reunions and still read this entry despite my warning. This is one chick that will just put the invitation- if there is one - in File 13. Oh yeah - Bah Humbug!!
