Conflicted
I was literally sick to my stomach on Sunday when I was perusing the on-line "big" time papers.
The LA Times had a headline - and I am NOT making this up - " An American Coronation".
I literally couldn't believe there was a decent editor out there that would have used Coronation in regards to the inaugural. Coronation - denotes royalty - excuse me... the original George W. ( as in Washington) made certain we didn't have coronations. We have coronations for prom or homecoming king and queens but NOT for the presidents of the land.
As our nation starts down a new course today, I am conflicted. With the economy in such dire straits, so many people out of work, there is a big ... party going on. Hmmm...
Okay - before I get slammed here, I understand the historical importance of Mr. Obama taking over the top job in the land. I get that. But where or when is the CHANGE?
But as most of us are struggling to make ends met and having to juggle, who the heck is paying for all the whoop-la-te-da-ness? Seriously - they wanted to 'unite' the country - well - hey, maybe the new "establishment" should be sending a big check to each of the working Joe and Josephine's of the world instead of paying for a big fancy party.
I don't agree with the premise that our out-going president was the sole individual to blame for the country's troubles. Everyone seems to forget there are 500 plus legislators governing. Plus I don't think the President was running the auto companies or the investment or financial companies. Wouldn't it be refreshing to see a congressman or senator stand up and say - hey folks we didn't do enough either. Wow - now that would be CHANGE! That will never happen in my lifetime.
While there is a part of me which would like to believe in the alleged change that is supposed to be sweeping the land, there is the cynic in me that is shouting that it won't happen anytime soon.
Conflicted. Conflicted. Conflicted.
PS: On a personal note - my dad is sitting up on a cloud somewhere watching all the festivities and enjoying ever bit of this. Democrat to the end. Enjoy the show Poppy.
