Life is Exciting
Life is Exciting
By Arley Steinhour 062117
We flew a kite, into the sky,
On a Warm, Clear, Afternoon,
Not one, but four, end to end,
That, in Tandem, they flew High.
See-through plastic, with Seven O Seven
Emblazoned upon, as if totally Alone,
With a Thousand feed of string, between,
Each, tethered the other, up unto Heaven.
My sons, and I were having a ball,
With the kites flying off to Five Thousand,
Actually somewhere between three and Four,
Number One, hardly seen, if at all.
Once Kites were flying, up there on High,
Our Revelry, touched Father/Son Soul,
Hearts flying together, we needed figure,
How to withdraw Four kites from the Sky.
The winding, we started, on Tether stick,
And, slower than slow, kites did follow,
Until a Real, Seven O Seven, dodged one,
As if to avoid collision by evasive Trick.
We were in trouble, and sped up attempt,
My knowing, that now we’re in Trouble,
Impeding the Airways approach to a landing,
Could be punished by more than Contempt.
Winding away, we recovered but Two,
Before the string broke from the Strain,
Off, first two flew, almost out of sight,
Where, I thought we could salvage them too.
Into the car, and off on our way,
But, retrieval chances faded from heart,
When we saw where they landed,
I feared there’d be Hell, to Pay.
We sulked our way home, near the phone,
Awaiting the Police, to arrest me.
Fingerprints would tell, who culprit be,
And my kids would be Fatherless, Alone.
Two weeks I wondered, without News,
I guess they didn’t think much about it,
How a Seven O Seven, dodged a kite,
And, Daddy didn’t need sing, ‘Grey-Bar Blues.’
Life is Exciting, when you have kids.
Thank you God/Jesus, for mine.
AMEN
