EMPTY NEST CYCLE
By Arley Steinhour 082213 m082216
We raise our children, through life's tempest,
The storm, of life, while they are wee,
We do our best, breakfast to breakfast,
To teach them to learn, and be free.
We keep our every parental focus,
On their Joy, and Wounded knee,
Too easy, their pain, and 'Stoke' us,
To hot flame, when a need there be.
Protecting, nurturing, kissing the harm,
For the years they're dependent on us,
Then, one day, it is 'Panic Alarm,'
As they board, one way ticket, on Adult Bus.
The nest, will not be empty, for long,
Or placed in closet for future need,
Children start singing their 'Adult Song,'
And, soon, are raising New Family seed.
Instead of one nest, now to track,
We've found one for every child,
Multiplied, the nests begin to stack,
Sometimes, enough to drive us wild.
We shift a gear, forgetting our greed,
Now, focus is on how much we taught,
That's used to fill their every need,
And the Grandchildren, our labors bought.
Look up, and thank, a Loving God,
You did the best, that you were able,
Let you children, on theirs, apply a 'rod,'
And enjoy mannered grandchildren, at God's Table.
AMEN
