Memories Door
Memories Door
By Arley Steinhour 101615
When you're old enough to commit your life,
To another soul, through good and strife,
That part of you that caters to self,
Is placed upon a dusty shelf.
Never more can 'Self' belong to you,
As two meld together, in love so true,
In courtship, you learn to focus on mate,
Filling other's needs, your only Sate.
When both are satisfied, other is the 'Only-One,'
The 'Race, and Trials,' have truly begun,
Swearing Troth, to each other, Husband and Wife,
Becoming 'One,' two families are melded together.
Quickly you find, all you think, say, and do,
Grows your love, for other half of you,
Your family as One, in time, becomes three,
Father and Mother, now, Head of Family.
Memories added, daily, as time goes by,
Some, good, some Joy, some to make you cry,
As the saying goes, 'In the Blink of an Eye,'
Children are grown, and gone, as Parents cry.
The Nest, is empty, and accumulates Dust,
Much like the selfishness, now a bit of Rust,
Memories, now, will come to the Fore,
With most of the bad, swept out Memories Door.
You've not done your job, of loving each and all,
Unless, early on, you gave Jesus your Call,
Reborn in the Faith, with children taught well,
They'll follow your lead, to never see Hell.
The best of life, I didn't mention at first,
For some, to do so, would sully their thirst,
Only in Jesus, can two become truly 'One,'
Just as with each other, with Jesus, the SON.
AMEN
