Nebraska High School Class C-2 Running Backs To Watch in 2024
The star of the show here is Husker commit Conor Booth, Wahoo Neumann’s human bulldozer who averaged a mind-boggling 10.6 yards a touch on 204 carries, 2,159 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Booth had to set the record for the most defenders bouncing off his body like water off a duck’s back. Talk about yards after contact. And the kid just doesn’t get hurt. Another nice thing about Booth is the fact he can either run over you or blow by you with his great, breakaway speed.
Mitchell burner Dez Smith was part of a Tiger backfield that came within 147 yards of boasting a TRIO of thousand yard rushers a year ago. With QB Santi Castillo and RB Cael Peters departed via graduation, Smith should get the majority of the carries this season and he is GOOD.
The third returning 1000 yard rusher is Fillmore Central junior Trevor Roach, who earned every one of his 1,040 yards a year ago for a Fillmore squad that swept through a rugged regular season schedule undefeated only to run head on into eventual C-2 State Champion Norfolk Catholic in the opening round of the postseason.
Oakland-Craig quarterback Braylon Anderson, son of the remarkable O/C Head Coach Joe Anderson, is certainly one of the finest Dual-Threat QBs in C2.
And how about the Magic Circle featuring THREE duos on this list. Nebraska High School Hall of Fame brother Jeff Bellar has another title contender coming back at Norfolk Catholic including a nasty 1-2 RB/FB punch in junior Nate Timmerman and rugged senior fullback Trevin Sukup.
Battle Creek and Hartington Cedar Catholic return fine backfield combinations that will make some noise in 2024. Cedar will have signal caller Breiton Whitmore and his backfield running mate, Breadan Rainforth while Battle Creek will feature a pair of RBs (as usual) in tough guy Jaxon Mettler and Aden Prochop.
