A History of Nebraska 8-Man Football - 1997 Class D-1/D-2 Playoffs, All-State Teams and Final Ratings.
*116 Nebraska High School Football Teams played 8-Man football in 1997. Dodge dropped down to Class D-2 in 1997 and won their 4TH consecutive State Championship (3 in D1). There was some shuffling of schools between Classes D-1 and D-2 this season, including defending D-2 champion Humphrey St. Francis going up to D-1.
6-Man football was enjoying a resurgence of some sorts during the 1990s (22 teams in ‘97) after going completely dormant from 1968 to 1983.
*Let’s recap the1997 Class D-1 playoffs.*
