A History of Nebraska 8-Man Football - 1958 All-State/Final Rankings
*145 Teams played 8-Man football in 1958 * (Up from 120 in 1957)
Eight-Man football continued its growth pattern in 1958, as the 6-Man ranks shrunk even further. And remember, there was still a Class D 11-Man class in existence at this time.
Without further ado, let’s get into the 1958 All-State Teams and Final 8-Man Ratings.
Gregg McBride from the World-Herald chose to split 8-Man football into TWO classes when the number of schools playing the game ballooned to over a hundred schools.
He actually did two sets of ratings all season, then followed suit from the final ratings, but then included a Final Top Ten combining Classes A & B.
He did the same for All-State teams but published a combined version, choosing the best of both classes.
Today, I thought it might be cool to include all three sets of ratings and All-State teams to illustrate how Mr. McBride did this. Now, the Class B All-Staters that were not chosen for the overall 8-Man All-State squad will not have height, weight or ages accompanying the name and school.
