Nebraska Eight Man Football Coaches Association 2023 Hall of Fame Salutes - Jeff Uher
My salute to the Nebraska High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2023 continues leading up to induction day during the halftime break of the Sertoma 8-Man All-Star Game to be contested Saturday, June 18th at Hastings College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
It is my honor to introduce another member of the NEMFCA 2023 Hall of Fame inductee, one of the most complete 8-Man football players I have ever seen. A pure Football Stud, Jeff Uher!
JEFF UHER – DODGE HIGH SCHOOL
From 1992 to 1995, Jeff played fullback and linebacker for Hall of Fame Coach Gordon Pilmore, while leading the Pirate’s original charge to back-to-back state titles in 1994 and 1995. As a key block in the foundation of the Dodge Football Dynasty, Jeff was a stand-out player among a collection of stand-outs. He was a powerhouse on both sides of the line of scrimmage and was named All-Cornhusker Conference 4 times, 1st Team All-Area twice, and 1st Team All-State on 2 more occasions.
As a senior, he was chosen as the All-State honorary captain, named to the All-Area/All-Class Team, and was also honored as the Class D-1 Defensive Player of the Year.
In the summer of 1996, Jeff was also selected to play in the Eight-Man All Star Game. History will remember him for the pivotal role he played on those historic Dodge Football Teams of the mid-1990’s and for also helping cement Nebraska’s famed “Highway 91” as a premier hub for Nebraska Eight Man Football. The NEMFCA is honored to welcome him into the Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
1000 Yard Guy Sez; Well, most of you know that the fabulous Jeff Uher was record setting legend Cory Eikmeier’s “blocking” fullback during Cory’s sophomore and junior seasons. I cannot count the times I have been asked if Eikmeier had not enjoyed the services of Jeff Uher leading blocking on those sweeps, would he have set the State Career Rushing Record?
All I can say is that during the Dodge Pirates 1994 and 1995 State Championship seasons there was no way defenses could have just keyed on Eikmeier, especially in ‘95. Uher blasted his way to 1,233 yards and 21 touchdowns that season and possessed one of the quickest starts out of the backfield in all of 8-Man football.
On defense during his senior campaign alone, Jeff Uher had 134 tackles, 6 QB sacks and 3 INTs entering the D1 title against Overton.
Uher scored 3 touchdowns and ran for over 100 yards in both the ‘94 and ‘95 Class D1 Championship games.
Jeff Uher was just simply one of the most versatile football talents I watched during the 90’s and was a splendid athlete all the way around.
Proof of that was the fact Uher was named 1st team All-State Class D1 Basketball squad his senior season.
Hey man, the dude could have made an All-State tiddlywinks team had Dodge fielded one during his high school years.
Count me in as a lifetime member of the Jeff Uher Fan Club.
