Nebraska Eight Man Football Coaches Association 2023 Hall of Fame Salutes - Casey Lund
My salute to the Nebraska High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2023 continues leading up to induction day during the halftime break of the Sertoma 8-Man All-Star Game to be contested Saturday, June 18th at Hastings College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
Once again, it is my honor to introduce another member of the NEMFCA 2023 Hall of Fame inductee, the most versatile Casey Lund of Newcastle.
CASEY LUND – NEWCASTLE HIGH SCHOOL
In a career that spanned from 1987 to 1990, Casey was a commanding force along both sides of the line of scrimmage for Coach Bart Kneifl and the Raiders. He led his team to the state quarterfinals in his junior season and then on to the state semi-finals in his senior campaign.
In both 1989 and 1990, Casey was named 1st Team All-Lewis & Clark Conference and 1st Team All-State for his dominance as an offensive and defensive lineman. After graduating, he was selected to play in the 1991 Eight Man All-Star Game, where Casey was honored as that game’s Most Valuable Defensive Player. Also in that same summer, he was the only Eight-Man player selected to the North squad for the 1991 Nebraska Shrine Bowl game.
After high school, Casey continued his successful football playing career at Wayne State College. The NEMFCA is honored to welcome him into the Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
1000 Yard Guy Sez; Casey Lund was certainly a dominating linemen, especially on defense. Lund’s senior season (1990), Newcastle’s defense allowed just 64 points during their regular season and that’s in 8-Man football, man!
Casey Lund, at 6-5, 215 pounds, was the main reason the Raiders were monsters on “D”.
I remember that ‘91 Eight-Man All-Star All-Star game very well, watching Lund punish anyone with a football in his hands. I also recall standing near him on the sidelines and being amazed by his size.
In my humble opinion, Casey Lund was one of the best defensive linemen I had seen in 8-Man football at that time. Big dude that you certainly wouldn’t want to call a naughty name, then run.
