***1000 Yard Rusher Alert***
**State Record Alert**
Matt Neiman-Brady - 5-11, 185 pound senior not only reached the 1000 yard rushing mark for the second straight year, but tied a State Record for Most Touchdowns in a Single Game.
While Brady was beating up on Stapleton for their first win of the year, big Matt was punishing the Broncos with 298 yards and 8 touchdowns. Neiman also caught 3 passes for 84 yards and a 40 yard TD reception.
The fantastic senior also added a 61 yard kick return score for his 10th TD in Brady's 77-32 romp.
The 10 touchdowns in a game ties a State Record set by big ole' Josh Frerichs of Lodgepole in 2002 when he ran over, around and through Minatare.
Check out the 36 game career total for Matt Neiman, who closed out his career in that Stapleton game. 3,619 rushing yards and 56 TDs, 1,032 receiving yards and 11 TDs, 4,651 Total yards, and a mind boggling 6,563 All-Purpose yards which includes rushing, receiving, kick-return, punt-return and interception return yardage. 74 total TDs
Throw in 227 tackles, 2 interceptions and 4 fumble recoveries and you have quite a set of career stats. This poor kid had to work for every single yard he accumulated this season.
**Battle of the 1000 Yard Rushers**
*Mark Zeckser-Doniphan-Trumbull - Won the battle of 1000 yarders and the game as well in the Cardinals narrow 21-20 victory over a vastly improved Gibbon football team last Friday in Doniphan.
Zeckser rambled for 262 yards on 26 carries and scored twice in the game to increase his season rushing total to 1,668 yards (12 TDs). Doniphan-Trumbull has already clinched a playoff berth and Zeckser will be a key figure in the picture
***1000 Yard Rusher Alert***
*Jacob Tracy-Gibbon - The 5-9, 170 pound junior's 381 rushing outburst against Sandy Creek two weeks ago set up this Running Back Extraordinaire battle with Zeckser.
Tracy was effective for the Gibbon cause with his 215 yards on 34 carries, but the Buffaloes came up short when they scored with 40 seconds left in the game, then missed on a double PAT pass try. That had to hurt, but I'll bet Doniphan-Trumbull may have been in shock when Gibbon played them that well.
No shock to this guy however, who knows what kind of coach Mark McLaughlin is and always will be. A Mark Wortman disciple, McLaughlin is one of the best ccoaches and motivators in the state.
Jacob Tracy increased his 2016 rushing total to 1,120 yards and 10 TDs with one game to go in the regular season.
**Battle of the Head Knockers**
*Brad Baasch-Doniphan-Trumbull and Wyatt Kee-Gibbon - Holy mole guacamole, I'll bet the sparks flew when these two brought the wood in that 21-20 in that lip biting Doniphan-Trumbull/Gibbon battle.
Baasch made 17 solo tackles and 2 assists for a total of 19 stops in the game, while his counterpart Wyatt Kee also logged 19 tackles, which included 12 solos.
You would be really hard pressed to find two finer Class C-2 linebackers than this pair. Baasch has made 122 tackles in 8 games with an unreal 90 solo stops this season. Headhunter I.
Wyatt Kee has recorded just one less tackle, logging 121 stops and 82 solo tackles. Headhunter II.
*Jerome Barnes - Papillion LaVista - This 6-2, 205 pound junior RB is becoming more dangerous by the week. A couple of weeks ago, 152 yards against Omaha Benson, last week another 137 vs. Kearney and last Friday.........Lincoln Northeast would like to forget that one.
Barnes had a field day against the Rockets, rambling for 287 yards on just 22 carries and 6 touchdowns. The gliding Monarch junior scored TDs on runs of 10, 78, 40, 20, and 43 yards in the 55-20 romp. He also caught a wide open 10 yard scoring pass.
Barnes, who churns for lots of yards after contact, has now accumulated 625 yards this season, 576 coming in the past 3 games.
*Tyler Chadwick-Omaha Burke - You know why this sophomore QB is a good player? One week after going 1 for 13 against the mighty Omaha North, Chadwick bounced back with a vengeance.
In a 32-0 win over Lincoln North Star, Tyler completed 15 of 22 aerials for 262 yards and threw TD strikes to Josh Baker (15 yards) and sophomore classmate Chris Hickman (27 yards). That raised Chadwick's season passing stats to 79 of 141 passes for 1,482 yards, 16 TDs with only 5 INTs. His passes average nearly 19 yards a every completion.
One thing that helps young Tyler Chadwick is his stable of receivers. Check out this fabulous trio of pass catchers.
*Josh Baker, who caught 6 passes for 118 yards in the North Star games, has hauled in 33 aerials for 567 yards (8 TDs) this fall. This young man has All-State written all over his jersey (#26)
In just 17 games, spanning last season and the current year, Baker has accumulated 63 receptions for a whopping 1,350 yards and 14 TDs. Baker averages 21.4 yards every single time he catches a pass.
*Alec Ellis - Four inches taller and 15 pounds heavier than Baker, the powerful Ellis has run under 26 of Chadwick's tosses for 503 yards and 3 TDs this year. As a cornerback for the Bulldog defense, Alec has 14 tackles, an interception and a blocked punt.
*Chris Hickman - Chadwick's classmate has only 12 receptions, yet has 273 yards and 5 touchdowns. Hickman, who is 6'-5" tall and checks in at 180 pounds, has averaged 22.8 yards every catch in 2016. You might keep an eye on Hickman when basketball season rolls around.
***2000 Yard Rusher Alert***
*Austin Stuhr-Henderson Heartland - It took only 4 carries and 111 yards to elevate Austin Stuhr over the 2000 yard rushing plateau last Friday.
In a 52-16 win over Franklin, Austin not only scored TDs on runs of 42 and 47 yards, but also caught a 20 yard scoring pass from junior Lane Huebert. That raises Stuhr's season (7 game) rushing total to 2,090 yards and 32 TDs. Yep, that's 298 yards a game folks.
We will see you, Mr. Stuhr, in Kenesaw Friday night. I'm not going to pass up the opportunity to see the Nation's leading 8-Man rusher.
*Jacob Johnson-Fairbury - Injured for a while earlier, Johnson is back to his old self and Raymond Central was the unlucky recipient last Friday.
The junior All-State candidate bolted for 199 yards on 33 carries and scored on a 10 yard touchdown run in the Jeffs 35-12 win over Raymond.
Jacob Johnson has already rushed for 790 yards in basically 6 games this fall, having missed most of the Falls City game and all of the following weeks matchup with Auburn.
The Jeffs have only one loss this season too, a 14-13 loss to Falls City, the game Jacob went down. How valuable is this dude to Fairbury?
*Titus Thompson-Lincoln High - Hauled in 8 passes for 161 big ones in the Links 27-9 win over Lincoln SW, including an all important 72 yard bomb from Jackson Mallory in the 4th quarter.
The 5-9, 165 pound senior has 25 receptions for 592 yards and 6 TDs this fall, including 319 the past two outings. Pretty impressive considering the fact Thompson missed the September 16th game with Omaha Bryan, a potential opportunity for big time stats.
Thompson's classmate, Caleb Brown, has 633 receiving yards in 8 games, making this duo one of Class A's most dangerous wide receiver pairs.
*Kale Kleinschmidt-BDS - Words cannot describe what a competitor this guy has been his entire career down there Bruning-Davenport-Shickley way.
Last week in a runaway 83-22 win over Meridian, Kleinschmidt completed 15-20 passes for 235 yards and 5 TDs.
Thomas Mick caught 3 of Kale's passes for 76 yards, while Caden Norder grabbed 3 for 71 yards and 2 scores.
BDS will travel to Lawrence-Nelson this Thursday in a battle of Class D-2 District Champions. Talk about a huge playoff-type atmosphere.
*Garrett Meyer-Omaha Gross - 175 pound senior made the most of his 10 carries in the Cougars 50-20 thrashing of Platteview. Meyer rolled up 149 yards, scoring 4 TDs in the process.
Meyer's scoring jaunts covered 4, 7, 68, and 20 yards, swelling his 2016 rushing total to 742 yards for the 3-5 Gross football team. Garrett is also a dangerous kick return man, having taken one to the house against Roncalli earlier in the year.
*Colton Rezabek-Wilber-Clatonia - Talk about making the most of your opportunities, this 6-0, 160 pound sophomore may be the King of that statement. I know he was in the Wolverines 42-0 frolic over winless Johnson County Central.
Can you hold up three fingers? That's how many carries Rezabek had in that JCC game and he scored on two of those. Colton ended the night with 122 yards and TD runs of 64 and 9 yards.
The sophomore RB has only been given the ball 55 times this season, yet has rushed for 539 yards (9/8/carry). Wilber-Clatonia has such a powerful offensive line that seven backs have rushed for at least 163 yards and five have surpassed the 200 yard mark.
Yes, Colton Rezabel is the leading rusher for Class C-2's top ranked Wolverine football team, who incidentally has the coolest uniforms around.
***1000 Yard Rusher Alert***
*Austin Schultz-Norris - Big night against Waverly elevated Schultz to 1000 Yard Rusher status. The junior ran for 155 yards on 18 carries and scored from 21 and 5 yards out in the Titans 48-13 pasting of the Vikings.
The big game increased Austin's season rushing count to 1,008 yards and 14 TDs. Not too awful far behind Schultz in punishing Brody Zabel, who dearly loves to run over and crunch defenders, has 882 yards with a game to go. Zabel ran for over a thousand yards a year ago for Coach Jim Jacobson.
.......and I thought you should know:
Alex Huston-Springfield (Mo.) Glendale - Surpassed the 10,000 yard passing mark in the Falcons 63-35 win over Camdenton, Missouri.
Huston completed 36 of 49 passes for 515 yards, 7 TDs with only 1 INT.
Huston's season passing total has reached 4,521 yards (56 TDs), increasing his 20 game career passing mark to an unimaginable 10,129 yards.
In my research, Huston reached the 10,000 yard passing yards quicker than anyone in history and the dude still has a year to go before he wraps up his high school career. Huston has averaged 506.5 yards a game through the air through 20 games.
These stats answered some of my questions:
*How many times does Huston throw a game? 49. What percentage of those does he complete? 70%.
*What does he average per completion? 15.8 yards.
*Does his Glendale team ever run the dang ball? Yeah, about 9 times a game. In fact, Glendale has thrown 442 passes this season and rushed the ball a grand total of 85 times. Alex Huston has 65 of those rushes.
*Has Huston had any Division One offers? Have not heard of any offers thus far.
