Finest Hampton-Papillion LaVista South - Now we can truly say "Finest is the finest".
The Titan senior set the Class A record for Most Touchdowns in a Game with his 7 rushing TDs against Omaha Bryan last Friday.
Finest ran for a monster 330 yards on 25 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 51, 3, 38, and 14 yards in the 1st quarter, then added scoring jaunts of 4 and 13 yards in the 2nd stanza, and closed out his record setting evening with a 5 yard touchdown early in the 3rd.
At the time, Hampton had also broken the Class A record for Most Points Scored in a Game with his 42, but later that night, a lot later, Norfolk's Lane McCallum scored 44 points against Omaha South. That game did not commence until 8:45 due to bus problems experienced by South on the way up to Norfolk.
The big rushing game by Finest puts him over the coveted 1000 yard rushing plateau with 1,279 yards, placing him in a tie for the Class A lead with Jaylin Bradley of Bellevue West.
*Wyatt Kee-Gibbon - You want to see a young guy with a nose for the football? You just found your man in Wyatt Kee. Honest to goodness, you better be sitting down for these tackling statistics, and trust me, they keep accurate stats at Gibbon.
The 6-0, 205 pound junior middle linebacker already has 105 tackles in 7 games. Even more amazing is 70 of those are solo stops. Hold on though, you "ain't" heard nothin' yet.
Wyatt made 128 tackles (62 solos) as a sophomore and 105 stops as a freshman with 62 solos. I'm talking about a freshman playing Class C-2, 11-Man football here.
In his short 28 game career, Wyatt Kee has made a staggering 335 tackles, which includes 194 solo stops and 14.5 tackles for losses.
This means Wyatt averages 12 tackles a game and has since the day he set foot on the field for the Buffaloes.
Another player that could play and start for anybody in Class A.
*Moses Bryant-Elkhorn South - Moses loves to play against Elkhorn High. 159 yards, 3 touchdowns as a freshman, 269 yards and 3 TDs a year ago as a sophomore, and last Friday in the No. 1 vs. No. 2 battle?
Well, Bryant only gained 110 yards on 17 touches, but the junior sensation scored five touchdowns, covering 9, 29, 15, 1 and 3 yards, pacing Elkhorn South to a resounding 45-7 win over their rival Antlers. That raises Moses season rushing total to 791 yards.
It was all over but the shoutin' by halftime in this one, with the Storm leading 38-0. QB Braden Wright took rushing honors in the blowout with his 118 yards on 15 carries. The dual threat Wright, my early choice for All-State quarterback, also fired a 26 yard scoring pass to sophomore Cooper Jewett in the win.
*Austin Stuhr-Henderson Heartland - Heartland faced one loss Superior last Friday and you may recall that Superior just dropped down to the 8-Man ranks this season for the first time ever.
Austin may have wanted to give the Wildcats a little "welcome" lesson to the 8-Man game and it turned to be a costly little lesson for Superior......like a 58-22 lesson.
Stuhr ran over, around and through the Wildcats to the tune of 374 yards on 33 carries. The amazing back scored 4 touchdowns in the romp which also included 8 tackles on defense, and truthfully, he must have gone easy on them in that department.
Austin Stuhr would be your State 8-Man Rushing Leader with 1,979 yards, that coming in just SIX games. Folks, that's averaging 329.8 yards every time he puts on the Friday Night pads.
The amazing Huskie product has already rushed for 3,857 yards in his 34 game career, which is amazing considering he only gained 143 yards his freshman year and 224 his sophomore season.
According to MaxPreps, Austin Stuhr is the Nation's leading 8-Man rusher by some 371 yards.
*Kale Kleinschmidt-BDS - Played Superman again in the No. 2 rated Eagles 36-12 win over No. 3 Falls City Sacred Heart last Friday in Shickley.
Kleinschmidt was very good through the air against the Irish, completing 14 of 22 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns, and equally effective against Sacred Heart with his feet.
The all-state Kleinschmidt ran for 152 yards on 29 carries, scoring on a pair of 2 yard runs. The BDS senior was especially effective in the second half, rushing 18 times for 91 yards, keeping some of those Eagle drives alive.
How is any team going to beat this BDS bunch, who won a Class D-1 championship a year ago? I'm sure Lawrence-Nelson, Twin Loup, and Osceola would like to give it a whirl, among others. There is no doubt Doug Goltz and his FCSH team would like another shot after leading BDS 12-0 at one time in the game last week.
*Jacob Pinkerton-Beatrice - The 5-11, 175 Sr. running back had a breakout game in the Beatrice 49-14 thumping of a good Waverly team. Pinkerton erupted for 253 big ones on only 21 tries, scoring a TD in the process.
The running explosion elevates Jacob's 2016 rushing total to 859 yards and this phase of the game will come in handy for Beatrice come playoff time in a few weeks
*Max Mason-Scottsbluff - Just another day at the office for Mason in the Bluffs 63-6 win over neighboring Gering.
Mason gained 195 yards on 19 carries and scored 4 touchdowns as the Bearcats proceeded to rush for 501 yards in the game. 13 different players carried the ball for Joe Benson's Bearcats and 6 of those gained double figure yardage.
Max Mason increased his 2016 rushing total to 1,258 yards, which leads Class B.
*Quentin Moles-Bloomfield - Beginning to think nobody can stop this guy. In the Bees 36-12 stinging of O'Neill St. Marys, Moles carried a staggering 42 times for 250 yards and a touchdown (69 run).
Quentin Moles has now run for a whopping 1,457 yards (19 TDs) for the season and the Bees will use that when they meet Osmond for the D-2, District 5 championship this Thursday night in Osmond.
*Josh Abbott, Jake Ruzicka-Wahoo - The Ryan Moritz and Christian Banker pass/catch duo of Class C-1 apparently. In the Warriors 62-21 win over Syracuse, Abbott threw only 12 times but was bullseye on 8 of those for 210 yards and three touchdowns.
Jake Ruzicka latched on to 4 of those aerials for a sky high 156 yards and three TD receptions. The scoring passes covered 75, 46, and 25 yards. Ruzicka also hit paydirt on a 2 yard run, while Abbott went in from 10 yards out.
Trevin Luben came in during the 4th quarter and it wasn't his 5 yard gain that bothered the Rocket defense so bad.
It was Luben's 95 yard TD sprint that certainly didn't set very well with those Syracuse defenders, who had apparently crowded that line of scrimmage.
I'll tell you a guy to watch in this Warrior defensive secondary is Ryan Walker. The dude had 80 tackles a year ago and is already up to 93 stops this season, with 47 of them being solos. Bonafide All-State material there, man.
*Noah Mick, Andrew Wine, Cade Elwood and that Millard North O-Line - Shredded Lincoln Northeast's defense in the Mustangs 70-8 win last Friday and not one of the three runners had over 8 carries.
Noah Mick led the way with 118 yards on 7 carries and 2 TDs (3, 68 yards). Andrew Wine added 73 yards on 6 touches and scored on runs of 28, 27 and 16 yards, while QB Elwood carried 8 times for 64 yards and scored twice (1, 14 yards).
Just for good measure, Cade Elwood thought it would be fun to flip a 62 yard TD pass to Andrew Wine......and that is just what he did.

*Gentry Anderson-Arapahoe - Sophomore quarterback reached the 1000 yard rushing plateau with his 247 yards on 22 carries against Wallace.
Anderson scored 3 touchdowns while also completing 7 of 16 passes for 128 yards and another score in that 54-28 win over the Wildcats. Gentry also recorded 4 tackles on defense, broke up 2 passes and intercepted another, as the Warriors improved to 4-2 on the season.
Gentry Anderson has now rushed for 1,083 yards and 14 TDs in 2016 and completed 46% of his 81 passes for 697 yards and 13 TDs with only one interception.
This young man is one of my favorite 8-Man players.
***1000 Yard Rusher Alert***
*Trevor Luzum-Exeter-Milligan - I'm betting Luzum sometimes feels like the Lone Ranger on this Timberwolves football team this fall. He was one of only 4 returning starters from a program that won Class D-1 State Titles in both 2013 and 2014, and reached the quarterfinals a year ago.
Throw in the fact Exeter-Milligan has only 14 players out for football this season and nine are freshman. Are you getting the Lone Ranger picture better now?
Despite these hurdles, Exeter-Milligan has fought it's way to a 4-3 mark this fall and Trevor Luzum just crossed the 1000 yard rushing threshold last week in the Timberwolves 54-20 win over Lincoln Parkview Christian.
In that game, Luzum exploded for 280 yards on 36 carries and scored on runs of 54, 42, 16, 7, and 8 yards. This raises Trevor's season total to 1,088 yards. And the amazing thing about this dude.....running the football isn't even his strong suite. It's DEFENSE.
To date, Luzum has logged 236 tackles, including 51 this season after making an even 100 stops a year ago. Another amazing thing.....Exeter-Milligan will probably make the Class D-2 playoffs despite the massive rebuilding year.
*Alex Horky-Twin Loup - The outstanding junior didn't get the ball much in the Wolves 68-9 blasting of Ansley-Litchfield. Horky did have 8 rushes in the game though, and made the most of them by gaining 149 yards.
Alex scored three touchdowns on running plays and added a 4th score with a 46 yard punt return.
For the season, the 165 pound junior has 1,249 yards rushing, made an impressive 108 tackles on defense, picked off a pass and recovered 2 fumbles for the 7-0 Wolves.
*Daniel Libolt-Chambers/Wheeler Central/Ewing - The 170 pound junior, who rushed for over a 1000 yards as a sophomore, came up big in the Renegades 30-18 win over Atkinson West Holt.
Libolt bolted for 156 yards on 26 carries, scored on a 2 yard run and caught a 10 yard scoring pass from QB Carter Croxen as CWCE raised their record to a perfect 6-0.
Daniel Libolt is a Renaissance Man for the Class D-1 No. 4 rated Renegades. Thus far, he has rushed for 700 yards and 12 touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 244 yards and 6 more TDs.
On defense, Daniel has logged 64 tackles, intercepted a pass and pounced on 2 fumbles though the first 6 games.
*Brady Klute-Hampton - Feels really good to give a Hampton player some love on the football side of things. This program has gone through some rough times the past few years. Matter of fact, the Hawks, who just dropped down to the 6-Man ranks this season, had lost 32 games in a row before breaking the curse with a 69-12 win over Elba last week.
In that game, Brady Klute completed 9 of 11 passes for 223 yards and 4 touchdowns. Jarod Shoup, who caught 4 passes for 83 yards, hauled in two of those scoring tosses, while Tyler Wall grabbed the remaining 2 and caught 3 balls for 91 yards in the process.
High props to the Hampton Hawks!
