1000 Yard Guy's 2014/2015 Nebraska High School All-State Basketball Teams.
*Class D-2*
1st Team All-State Team:
Derek Luzum-Exeter-Milligan - 6-3, Senior (18 ppg/9.0 rpg)
Carson Tietz-Bancroft-Rosalie - 6-0, Senior (16.0 ppg/7.3 rpg)
Tanner Hudson-Riverside - 6-4, Junior (23.6 ppg/684 points)
Jake Samuelson-Bertrand - 6-0, Senior (20.8 ppg/7 rpg)
Brandon Stevens-Spalding Academy - 6-1, Senior (18.3 ppg/5.8 rpg)
*2nd Team:
Kyle Jensen-Exeter-Milligan - 5-11, Senior (14.4 ppg/403 points)
Kenneth Appleton-Bancroft-Rosalie - 5-9, Senior (16.8 ppg/486 points)
Austin Malone-Falls City Sacred - 6-0, Senior (15.8 ppg/6.0 rpg)
Justin Lee-Sandhills-Thedford - 6-5, Senior (14.3 ppg/9.5 rpg)
Seyler Moore-Silver Lake - 6-1, Senior (20.9 ppg/12.8 rpg)
*Exeter-Milligan's Luzum led his team to a state title and was one of three players on the D-2 Dream Team to surpass the 500 point mark for the season (503). The burly Hudson led the entire state in scoring with his 684 points for Riverside high school, a coop with Cedar Rapids and Spalding High. Bertrand's Jake Samuelson exploded for 47 points in a 78-75 OT win over Elwood early in the season and ended his year with 521 points. Spalding Academy's Stevens was a 2nd team D-2 selection a year ago. Silver Lake's Moore labored for an 8-13 squad, yet averaged a double/double each time he hit the court. Seyler put up 24 points and pulled down 14 boards vs. D-1 3rd place BDS and and twice had identical games of 18 points and 9 boards against D-2 qualifier Wilcox-Hildreth.
*Class D-1*
1st Team All-State Team:
Cole Klingsporn-High Plains - 5-11, Senior (19.5 ppg/4.3 rpg, 1,068 career points)
Andy Kerkman-Clearwater-Orchard - 6-8, Junior (18.0 ppg/14.7 rpg)
Zach Huettner-Humphrey St. Francis - 5-10, Senior (14.4 ppg/403 points)
Grant Norder-BDS - 5-11, Senior (11.3 ppg/6.5 rpg)
Noah Vasa-Nebraska City Lourdes - 6-8, Senior (17.4 ppg/13.2 rpg, 178 blocked shots)
*2nd Team:
Breydon Eckhout-Amherst - 6-0, Junior (18.3 ppg/4.1 rpg)
Chayse Wemhoff-Humphrey St. Francis - 6-1, Senior (14.4 ppg/8.9 rpg)
Nic Crowley-Elm Creek - 6-3, Senior (18.6 ppg/6.9 rpg)
Cole Nickels-Henderson Heartland - 6-3, Senior (13.6 ppg/4.4 rpg)
Thomas Young-High Plans - 6-0, Sophomore (12.8 ppg/5.0 rpg)
*It seems like Cole Klingsporn has been at High Plains forever, especially to opposing teams. Opposing teams that play Clearwater/Orchard will have to sweat out guarding the 6-8 Kerkman for 1 more season. The talented junior has scored 909 points the past 2 years for the Cyclones. BDS standout Grant Norder was that team's leader in both football and basketball. Huettner was just one of many bright spots for St. Frans, and Noah Vasa of Lourdes Central Catholic may have flown under the radar to many who missed seein his talents this past season. This kid can play. Vasa was held under double figures ONCE during his senior season and that was against a great BDS team. In a rematch, he scored 13 points, grabbed 13 boards and blocked 9 shots.....NINE. Vasa swatted 178 shots this past season.
Look out for Amherst's Eckhout next season, as well as High Plains Thomas Young.
*Class C-2*
1st Team All-State Team:
Adam Dykman-Fremont Bergan - 6-8, Senior (22.9 ppg/12.1 rpg)
Isaac Frerichs-Freeman - 6-1, Senior (19.0 ppg/5.1 rpg, 83 Steals)
Brooks Asher-Hastings St. Cecilia - 6-2, Junior (15.8 ppg/440 points)
James Kaiser-Hartington Cedar Catholic - 6-0, Senior (15.2 ppg/395 points)
Trev Semrad-David City Aquinas - 5-9, Senior (18.8 ppg/4.9 rpg, 104 assists, 90 steals)
2nd Team:
Hunter Quinn-Southern Valley - 6-3, Senior (17.4 ppg/9.3 rpg)
Jared Bellar-Battle Creek - 6-0, Senior (13.0 ppg/3.8 rpg, 82 steals)
Quentin Baxter-Bridgeport - 6-3, Junior (17.3 ppg/4.3 rpg)
Matthew Wood-Hemingford - 6-2, Senior (20.1 ppg/6.0 rpg, 1,467 career points)
Blake Chramosta-Ravenna - 6-0, Senior (21.3 ppg/8.9 rpg)
*Archbishop Bergan's Adam Dykman was just named Nebraska's Gatorade Player of the Year for 2014/2015. Nuff said. Freeman's Frerichs can jump to the moon and was a freakish athlete. Kaiser shattered the scoring record at Cedar Catholic, which is not easy to do. Aquinas' Semrad was one of the finest pure shooters in the state and Brooks Asher of St. Cecilia will be an easy 3 year all-state selection when his career is over. Also a terrrific baseball player. C-2 had one of the strongest 2nd teams of all the classes. Hemingford's Matthew Wood scored 1,467 career points and is one of the best 8-man football players ever. Ravenna's Chramosta often times carried the Jays entire load this past season. nearly impossible to stop if he decided to drive to the hoop.
*Class C-1*
1st Team All-State Team:
Youhanna Ghaifan-Grand Island Central Catholic - 6-5, Senior (16.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 98 Blocks)
Jacob Sheef-Wahoo - 6-3, Senior (21.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 84 steals)
Grant Lahm-Columbus Scotus - 6-0, Senior (21.3 ppg, 597 points)
David Wingett-Winnebago - 6-5, Sophomore (17.6 ppg/6.9 rpg, 39 blocks, 48 steals)
Jaxon Simons-Wahoo Neumann - 6-1, Sophomore (16.5 ppg, 3.9 ppg)
2nd Team All-State Team:
Mathew Wingett-Winnebago - 6-3, Senior (15.1 ppg, 5.4 ppg)
Brady Delimont-Ainsworth - 6-2, Junior (19.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 102 assists, 1,233 career points)
Tanner Borchardt-Gothenburg - 6-9, Senior (16.8 ppg, 12.5 rpg, 68 blocks, 1,191 career pts.)
Ben Hoskins-Wayne - 6-5, Senior (17.2 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1,163 career points)
Vonsinh Sayaloune-Chadron - 5-8, Senior (17.2 ppg, 447 points)
*GICC's Ghaifan has incredible footwork and very soft, solid hands. The kid could probably play Division 1 basketball if someone further developed his already sharp skills. Wyoming football recruit. Lahm is C-1's designated sharpshooter, especially from long distance. The rugged Sheef is the Dribble-Drive King, and both the Wingetts from Winnebago led their team to a storybook C-1 title, mowing over everyone in their path except Fremont Bergan and GICC. Jaxon Simons will match David Wingett for scoring. Great slam dunk artists.
Gothenburg's 6-9 Borchardt is way, way better than many think. May be one of the best in the entire state defending right under the hoop. Delimont can flat out drain the trey and key the fast break. Chadron's Sayaloune had that lightening quick release, and Hoskins was a force for Wayne for the past 3 seasons. He will continue his career at Wayne State.
*Class B*
1st Team All-State Team:
Johnny Trueblood-Elkhorn South - 6-4, Senior (23.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 598 points)
Trent Harris-Scottsbluff - 6-1, Senior (13.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg)
Wills Wallrap-Omaha Skutt - 6-4, Senior (18 ppg)
Jared Sameulson-Gretna - 6-2, Junior (15.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 487 points)
Tyler Wintholz-Sidney - 6-4, Junior (15.8 ppg, 7.0 rpg)
2nd Team All-State Team:
Vance Janssen-Blair - 6-2, Senior (20.0 ppg)
Alex Cromer-Beatrice - 6-6, Junior (14.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg)
Bart Hiscock-Bennington - 6-6, Junior (20.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 861 points in 2 seasons)
Jordan Mills-Alliance - 6-4, Senior (22.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 530 points)
Mohamad Elradi-Elkhorn Mount Michael - 6-2, Senior (17.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg)
*Trueblood was something to behold. His outside, shooting, ability to drive to the hoop with college moves, and quickness on defense, led the Storm to a Class B championship. Harris of Scottsbluff is a repeat selection, as well as Skutt's Wills Wallrapp. Both Samuelson and Wintholz are forces to be reckoned with next year in Class B. Watch out for Beatrice Cromer and Bennington's Hiscock next season also. And Alliance ace Jordan Mills? This guy put up big numbers against every single team he faced. Very solid choice who scored 530 points during the season. Something else to consider about Jordan Mills. The Alliance scoring machine could very well have been the best player in Western Nebraska. If so, maybe he should have been a 1st team selection. Never know. Mt. Michael's Elradi may not have had a shining state tournament, but the kid is good, folks.
*Class A*
1st Team All-State Team:
Malik Hluchoweckyj-Bellevue West - 6-0, Senior (15.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 375 points)
Tyler Hagedorn-Norfolk - 6-9, Senior (17.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg)
Noah Fant-Omaha South - 6-2, Junior (11.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg)
Justin Patton-Omaha North - 6-11, Senior (14.1 ppg, 9.9 rpg)
Drew Homa-Creighton Prep - 6-6, Junior (11.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg)
2nd Team All-State Team:
Pierce Almond-Grand Island - 6-1, Senior (18.2 ppg, 419 points)
Ben Kositzke-Millard West - 6-8, Senior (13.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 56 blocks)
Ryan Garver-Lincoln Northeast - 6-1, Junior (12.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 94 assists, 94 steals)
Triston Simpson-Lincoln North Star - 6-4, Senior (17.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 113 assists)
Aaron Rothermuund-Papillion La Vista South - 6-2, Senior (17.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg)
*Not the strongest season for Class A talent, but Hluchoweckyj was solid the past 2 years for the T-Birds. Patton is a Creighton recruit, and Hagedorn was an incredible all-arounf player for Ben Ries' Panthers. South's Fant was one of 3 Packers that could have made this 1st team. Homa led his Creighton Prep squad to a state title and will return to bedevil Class A next season.
Ryan Garver of Northeast was as qucik as they come and was a pretty salty rebounder with great leaping ability for a 6-1 player. His floor leadership will be missed next season by the Rockets. North Star's 6-4 Tristin Simpson will be a shining star in 2015/2016, and GI's Pierce Almond will take his outstanding basketball skills to UNK next season and may make an immediate impact there.
*Super State*
1st Team Super-State Team:
Adam Dykman-Fremont Bergan - 6-8, Senior (22.9 ppg/12.1 rpg)
Malik Hluchoweckyj - 6-0, Senior (15.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 375 points)
Tyler Hagedorn-Norfolk - 6-9, Senior (17.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg)
Johnny Trueblood-Elkhorn South - 6-4, Senior (23.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 598 points)
Justin Patton-Omaha North - 6-11, Senior (14.1 ppg, 9.9 rpg)
*TWO underclassman on this team, and very well could have been three, as GICC's Youhanna Ghaifan missed being named on this 1st team by the narrowest of margins. The lad was that good, so much so, that Ghaifan will be a solid candidate for both the World-Herald and Journal-Star's Athlete of the Year Award at the conclusion of this sports season. Yo is a terrific soccer performer. The Class A selections are all deserving. Hagedorn could shoot from anywhere on the court.
2nd Team Super-State Team:
Youhanna Ghaifan-Grand Island Central Catholic - 6-5, Senior (16.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 98 Blocks)
Jacob Sheef-Wahoo - 6-3, Senior (21.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 84 steals)
Grant Lahm-Columbus Scotus - 6-0, Senior (21.3 ppg, 597 points)
Noah Fant-Omaha South - 6-2, Junior (11.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg)
Ben Kositzke-Millard West - 6-8, Senior (13.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 56 blocks)
*Another player that was underrated in my opinion was Millard West's Kositzke. This kid can play and was certainly one of the best big men in Class A without a doubt.
