***1000 Yard Alert***
*Calvin Strong-Omaha North - Solid Division 1 recruit ran for 306 yards on 31 carries and scored on runs of 35, 1, 29, 2 and 7 yards in the Vikings 46-16 win over Papillion LV South. Strong now leads the state in rushing with 1,233 yards. Are you watching Huskers? If not UCLA is.
*Logan Gier-Omaha Burke - Outstanding back rushed through Millard North's defense to the tune of 199 yards on only 12 carries. I'll do the math....16.5 yards a pop and a 71 yard TD jaunt to go with it. Gier is an exiting runner and has rushed for 769 yards this fall. Burke clipped the Mustangs 34-28.
*Clay Fisher-Millard North - Fisher was no slouch himself in the Millard North/Burke game. The fleet quarterback rushed for 184 yds on 31 touches and scored on runs of 5 and 10 yards. Fisher fits the MN quarterback mold just right. Clay has run for 591 yards and has missed a game this year to boot.
*Grand Island Senior High Defense - This crew carried out coach Jeff Tomlin's defensive scheme to perfection by blanking Kearney and holding the Bearcats to 152 total yards and 8 first downs.
GISH will remember this night for a long time.
*Will Schany-Blair - The bruising RB/LB exploded for 234 yards on 27 carries in the Bears big 28-14 win over Norris. I don't care how big you are, it just has to hurt like mad to tackle Schany. You'd have to think twice to tackle this guy in open space when he gets rolling. Even more ferocious at linebacker.
*Jessop Workman-Beatrice - Ran for a TD before the first hot dog was sold in the Hastings game. Workman went 73 yards for the score on the first play from scrimmage on his way to 191 yards on a meager NINE carries. Workman added a 74 yard TD run and caught a 12 yd TD pass in the Orange 49-13 spanking of the Tigers. Workman now has 903 rushing yards for 2013.
*Nathan "D-Train" Davenport-Lincoln Parkview Christian - 190 pound steamroller rushed for 175 yards on 22 carries and scored on runs of 33 and 64 yards as the LPC bested Osceola 38-13 last Thursday. Davenport is a dandy.
*Isaac Wallace-Ralston - The two-time 1000 yarder is starting to roll big time. Wallace punished Bennington with 279 yards on 23 totes and scored 4 times in the 43-0 win. Isaace has 933 for the year and is on his way to being a rare 3 time thousand yard man.
***1000 Yard Rusher Alert***
*Alex Brehmer-Lyons-Decatur NE - In a match-up of D-1's top two runners, Brehmer rushed for 232 yards on only 13 carries in the 56-14 win over Humphrey High. The talented QB now is 8-Man's leading rusher with 1,165 yards and is a 2 year 1000 yard man.
***1000 Yard Rusher Alert***
*Robbie Heesacker-Humphrey - Rushed for 138 yards on 32 carries in the Lyons loss. Heesacker, who had back-to-back 300+ rushing games, now has 1,014 yards for 2013.
*Chevy Henneman-Lyons-Decatur NE - Brehmer isn't the only horse in that Cougar stable. Henneman rushed for 187 yards on 18 totes in that Humphrey game. The 145 pound junior has quietly gained 700 yards on the ground for the Cougs this season. LOVE that 1st name....if he drives a Ford I'll eat my hat.
*Jacob Morrill-Creighton - The 200 pound senior is getting oh so close to that history making 4th 1000 yard rushing season. Jacob rushed for 161 yards on 20 carries and scored twice in the Bulldogs thrashing of Elgin/Pope John 62-14. Morrill now has 715 yards and is 285 away from a feat rarely seen in Nebraska high school football. Only two others have done it.
*Chett Hinton - Twin Loup (Sargent/Loup Co.) - 140 pound junior ran for 139 yds on 23 carries and scored on TD dashes of 4, 1 and 72 yards in the Wolves 29-19 win over Palmer.
*Ryan Hipke-GINW - Accomplished a feat not often witnessed in 11-man football. Hipke had 17 receptions in a 26-17 loss to Gering.....Seventeen. There aren't a ton of QB's around the state that complete 17 passes in a game let alone to one receiver. Hipke's catches went for 179 yards and a 43 yard TD. Hipke's 38 catches for 533 yards in 2013 has him rubbing elbows with the big boys of receiving in this state. Hipke trails only Bellevue West's C J Johnson (602) and Creighton Prep's R. J Urzandowski (566). Ryan, you may have to change you first name to an initials type deal to fit in here.
*Jordan Slough-Doniphan-Trumbull - One of the most exciting runners in Nebraska, Slough rushed for 196 yards on 24 carries in a 42-13 win over Thayer Central. Slough ran for touchdowns of 8, 10, 38 and 45 yards and caught a 45 yard TD pass from Riley Wiltfong. Slough, who ran for 2,274 yards a year ago, now has 667 yards in 4 games for the Cardinals.
*Zach Zelasko-Elkhorn South - Took only 8 carries to rush for 119 yards in a 38-17 won over Plattsmouth. Zelasko scored on runs of 1 and 83 yards.
*Zach Reeg-Elkhorn South - The Zachs had it going against Plattsmouth. Zach Reeg chipped in 130 yards on 12 carries and scored long distance TDs of 50 and 41 yards in that Plattsmouth win.
*Buzz Niederklein-Hastings Adams Central - Perfect record for Niederklien. The senior RB has made this list every week in 2013. Buzz rushed for 150-29 carries in the Patriots 28-12 win over Gibbon. Niederklein has run for 766 yards this season.
*Mark Jarecke-Columbus Lakeview - Ran 13 times for 135 yards and scored on runs of 15, 4, and 61 yards and a 75 yard kick return in Lakeview's 37-13 win over David City. #40 is valuable on both sides of the ball for the Vikings. What a senior class.
*Noah Schlange-Platteview - 5-9, 155 pound junior exploded for 255 yards on only 10 carries in a 45-13 win against Schuyler. Schlange, who had run for over a 100 yards in only one other game, scored on runs of 47 and 77 yards. Noah now has 452 yards for the year.
*Adam Granville-Platteview - Rushed for 138 yards on 15 carries in the Schuyler game and scored on a 40 yard run.
*Logan Powers and Ben Plambeck-Lincoln Christian - Dynamic Duo was money in the Crusaders 59-33 win over Auburn. Powers ran for 112 yards and scored on runs of 1, 34, 10 and 13 yards. Plambeck carried the ball 29 times for 170 yards and ran it in for TD runs of 1 and 5 yards.
*Shaka Taylor - Lutheran High NE - One of my favorite athletes ran for 167 yards and scored an 18 yard TD in LHNE's 29-14 win over West Holt. Shaka is a Shaker and Baker don't cha know. Catch him if you can.
*Sean Van Briesen-Papillion La Vista - This young man compliments Alec Ditoro's passing game. In the big 31-21 win over Bell West, Sean rushed 22 times for 156 yards and scored on a 17 yard run and a 23 yd reception. Van Briesen has rushed for 581 yards this season and has not been held to under 100 yards ONE time.
*Brad Brazeal-Bellevue West - Threw 50 passes in the Papio game, completing 30 for 272 yards and 3 TDs with only one INT.
*C J Johnson and Malik Hluchoweckyj-Bellevue West - In that Papio loss Johnson, the state's leading receiver, caught 12 passes for 139 yards and 2 scores (30 and 7 yd TDs). Malik hauled in 13 aerials for 104 yards.
*Brook Bolles-Lincoln North Star - Quarterback completed 10 of 14 passes for 181 yards with TD tosses of 40, 12 and 33 yards in the Gators 27-7 win over Lincoln High.
*Jordy Stoller-Falls City - This Tiger roared with 256 yards on only 13 carries and scored touchdowns on 14, 16, 69, and 32 yard runs. Falls City beat Lincoln Lutheran 58-21.
*Daniel Stohlmann-Louisville - QB ran for 141 yards and 2 TDs in a 45-14 win over Johnson County Central. Daniel also connected on 9 of 12 passes for 160 yds and 2 more touchdowns in the route.
*Trevor Nichelson-Ashland-Greenwood - Check this Freshman out: A-G and Raymond Central were tied at 23 with 29 seconds left in the game. Nichelson picked off a pass and prevented a Raymond TD. Then with 18 seconds left coach Ryan Thompson called a play designed to gain just enough yardage to get situated for a last second field goal. Trevor Nichelson had other ideas. He took the handoff, cut back across the field and raced 28 yards for the winning TD. A true Friday Night Hero and only a 9th grader.
*Parker Micek-Shelby - 6-0, 165 pound sophomore rushed for 200 yards on 11 totes and had TD jaunts of 4, 48, 42, and 30 yards in the Huskies 64-16 crushing of Cross County. Love that last name Parker.
*Trevor Mazour-Boone Central/Newman Grove - Ran for 116 yards on 13 carries and scored TDs of 1 and 2 yards. Mazour also was 13 of 19 passing for 210 yards and threw TD tosses of 20, 6 and 54 yards in the Cardinals 35-13 win at Columbus Scotus.
*Colton Bridcko-Fremont Bergan - Rushed for 153 yards and had two 1 yard TD runs in the Knights 40-6 pounding of Tekamah-Herman. The Bergan offense had 403 total yards while the Knights stout "D" held T-H to just 51 total yards. I saw this guy play....tough dude.
*Gage Smith-Gering - Hard running senior bolted for 148 yards on 22 carries to lead his team to a 26-17 win over visiting GINW. Smith ran for 16 and 47 yard TDs and kicked 30 and 36 yard field goals in the game. Quite the player indeed.
*Chase Barthel-Medicine Valley - QB rushed 18 times for 197 yards and scored on 48, 1 and 14 yards as MV beat Brady 55-14.
*Ethan Skinner - Hemingford - Junior had 131 yds on 11 carries in a lightening shortened 42-8 win over Sutherland. Skinner had TD scampers of 1, 42, and 16 yards. Who need 4 quarters anyway.
*Jacob Buhr-Freeman - The 6-0, 160 pound junior rambled for 181 yards on 37 carries in an important 32-28 win over Nebraska City Lourdes. Buhr returned the opening kick off 79 yards for a TD and also hit paydirt on an 8 yard run.
*Cody Beckmann-Bloomfield - 180 pound junior pounded Neligh-Oakdale by gaining 148 yards on 29 carries and scoring 3 touchdowns. Bees did sting N-O 36-6. Beckmann now has 730 yards for 2013.
