Big Brother 20 Week 1 Recap and Updates
The first week of Big Brother 20 had a lot of twists and surprises. The two biggest for me was that no veterans were introduced into the game for the first time in several years. The other big surprise for me was that no one was evicted on the first night which had become a normal thing for Big Brother in at least the last decade.
16 house guests are still in the house leading to tonight's eviction. It is a tech themed season (and a climbing wall, which has nothing to do with technology go figure) so all of the competitions so far have had a tech theme. The first comp set the house guests into two teams of eight. One team had to fumble around in the dark looking for a safety envelope. One envelope has a safety and play on card which allowed that house guest to play in the final comp of the night. Angela found that card and advanced to the final comp. Kaycee did not find a car and was forced to wear a pinwheel unitard until after tonight's eviction. Whenever the pinwheel spins she has to stay where she is until it stops.
The other comp was a spelling stack comp where the house guests had to stack the word house guest up while hanging from ropes. Chris just beat out Scottie advancing to the final comp. Sam finished last and was turned into a robot. It has been a rough week for her due to that.
In the final comp Chris and Angela balanced on surfboards. Angela fell off giving Chris the ability to save eight house guests (including himself) from eviction and the block this week. The other 7 he saved were Angie, Brett, Rachel, Faysal, Haleigh, Kaycee, and Scottie.
In the HOH comp the remaining eight players had to race across a beam to get elimination balls and then race back across the beam and put it in another house guest's tube. Tyler won the comp becoming HOH. He nominated Sam and Steve (who finished last in the HOH comp) for eviction. During the week the new fan interactive game began where they could vote on the house guest most trending and least trending. Faysal was least trending and selected Hamazon (which results in a daily ham delivery that has to be eaten in full). Sam won the most trending and she selected the 1-life. She can, for the next four weeks, save someone from eviction (including herself). If she does not use it in the first three weeks whoever is eliminated in the 4th week is automatically saved.
Unfortunately I missed the POV comp, but I know that Faysal won and did not use it. Tyler knows that Sam has the power and is trying to convince the house guests not to use it so she can save it for one of them. At last check he had made some headway but we will find out tonight if he convinces them.
Recap
HOH - Tyler
Noms - Sam and Steve
POV - Faysal
Rankings
16. Steve
Unless Steve can find a miracle he is likely going home tonight. With Sam having the power to save a house guest she is likely only to use it if she is evicted. If so then no one is evicted. Otherwise his season is over.
15. Chris
Chris overplayed his hand this week believing that he has the ultimate power in the house and essentially telling everyone in the house so. He also is in a sort of showmance with Bayleigh which will also put a target on his back. If he can win HOH tonight he should be okay for awhile. If not he could find himself on the block this week. Voted to evict Sam
14. Kaitlyn
As I predicted in my preview NamasteKaitlyn is stirring up way more drama than she is resolving. It seriously does not take a lot to set her off. In a conversation with Sam she was throwing f-bombs left and right. When Sam interrupted her with one of her own f-bombs NK went and complained that Sam had attacked her for no reason. She has had an issue with anyone in the house that does not take her unasked for advice. As of now the house guests seem to be ignoring her tantrums but it will not take long to wear them out. Voted to evict Steve
13. Winston
Like Chris, Winston believes he has control over the house despite not actually doing much in the game except walking around like he owns the house. Voted to evict Steve
12. Bayleigh
Bayleigh looked to be an early favorite and then had a freak out when Tyler started putting deletion balls in her tube which she then denied to Tyler that she had freaked out. Then she got into a sort of showmance with Chris. Tyler and his team do not trust him and he seriously considered putting her on the block before playing it safe. Voted to evict Sam
11. Angie
She has been much quieter than she had promised she would, not living up to her self-given "Rockstar" moniker. She was safe this week so she stayed under the radar and did not raise a lot of fuss. Voted to evict Sam
10. Haleigh
She has played a surprisingly quite game in the first week. Voted to evict Sam
9. Rachel
Rachel definitely seems to only be here to be seen and flirt as that is all she has done so far. Unless she starts to actually play the game she could be one of the early non-jury evictions. Voted to evict Steve
8. JC
JC is a good guy with a huge heart but may be trying to hard to play both sides of the house. Right now he seems okay but he will not be able to pull this off long term. Voted to evict Steve
7. Scottie
I hated putting Scottie this low because he has had a surprisingly good first week. There is a lot more to him than there seems and as long as he stays loyal to the right team he could play his way deep into this game. Voted to evict Sam
6. Brett
Brett got a favorable bump this week for seeing through Chris's game. Chris just assumed that all the power guys would team up and screw the rest of the house over. Unbeknownst to Chris, Brett already had an alliance and informed his team what Chris was up to. Voted to evict Steve
5. Faysal
Faysal had both a good and bad week winning the POV but also getting the first fan punishment. He has teamed up with Chris and they are extremely cocky in their belief that they will be the final two. I give Faysal the edge and the bump because he is at least keeping it lowkey when not with Chris. Voted to evict Sam
4. Angela
I though pre-season that Angela would be this year's Christmas and it looks like she is. She is definitely the most athletic female in the house but I am not entirely sure about her social game as yet. Voted to evict Steve
3. Kaycee
I honestly did not think I was going to like Kaycee but she is very down to earth and had handled her punishment extremely well. The fact that she was safe this week was a big bonus for her. Voted to evict Steve
2. Sam
I honestly thought Sam was going home tonight until she got more power than Tyler has by being able to negate one of the next four evictions. She is definitely an outcast in this game and unless she can step up her comp game she could be out quickly after her power is gone.
1. Tyler
I thought Tyler was going to be the typical dumb blond surfer dude (he even said so himself) but he is a lot more savvy at this game than he let on. Winning the first HOH will put a target on his back, but as long as he has his team behind him he should be fine. Turning on the fake tears after the nomination ceremony was a genius stroke.

EVICTION
Steve was evicted by a vote of 7-6.
Chris, Bayleigh, Haleigh, Scottie, Faysal, and Angie voted to evict Sam.
Winston, Rachel, JC, Brett, Kaycee, Angela, and Kaitlyn voted to evict Steve.
The surprise is that Cat 6 was able to convince Kaitlyn to evict Steve against her own alliance. The producers played the angle that she changed her vote because she felt betrayed by Faysal and Haleigh in their new showmance. For me the look on Chris's face when he realized the he did not have the house under his thumb like he believed.
HOH
#NamasteKaitlyn won the second and her first HOH of the season beating out Sam. It was another comp of chance as each house guest had to catapult a ball at building with salaries in it. It was quite obvious that Chris through the comp as his ball hit the actual house. As of now there is no telling who Kaitlyn will put on the block or even which side of the house she is on. She gave a surprised look at the eviction, either because she was trying to cover her ass or because she was lead to believe her vote wouldn't send Steve home. My bet is the former. I could see her going after Haleigh in an attempt to get her out of the house so that Kaitlyn can have Faysal. It will be an interesting, drama filled week.
Nominations
#NamasteKaitlyn nominated Scottie and Winston for eviction. It is not entirely clear if either is her primary target. Winston may only be up as the true pawn while Scottie is being told he is the pawn. Kaitlyn has hinted that Chris is her true target, but it is not clear if he really is HER target or the target of Cat 6. At this point I would not be surprised if the POV is used to take one of them off the block if Kaitlyn puts up Haleigh.
POV
Tyler won the POV. I do not know at this time what the comp was, but I know that it took most of the afternoon into evening to complete. For the moment it does sound like the plan is for Tyler to take Winston off the block and for #NamasteKaitlyn to put Chris up and for Chris to go home. Kaitlyn sounds like she is all in saying at one point that she would rather go home early after making big moves than last long into the game being a wallflower. If the house guests go through with this it could be the quickest downfall of a powerhouse player I have seen and Chris would have no one but himself to blame. After the very first comp that he won he started walking around the house like he owned it despite being told not to do so because it would just put a target on his back. However, he continued believing that the house was under his control even after Steve was evited this past week.
Of course, Kaitlyn could go weak and tell Tyler not to change nominations and then Scottie would go home and all this would be moot.
POWER ALLIANCES UPDATE
There are two main alliances in the game right now:
Level Six:
Tyler
Brett
Winston
Kaycee
Angela
Rachel
Foutte:
Chris
Faysal
Angie
Kaitlyn
Haleigh
Bayleigh is aligned with the group but unaware that the group exists.
This leaves Sam, JC, and Scottie out of the mix. It is believed that Kaitlyn is taking a shot at Chris this week and if Chris leaves that leaves Foutte with three members plus Bayleigh. Sam and JC are aligned with Level Six but not in the group. It does not seem that the #Bros (Winston and Brett) even like her, so once her 1 Life is used they will more than likely take her out. JC is not trusted by Level Six because he has told the other side of the house their plans. Scottie is on an island by himself so expect both sides of the house to use him as a pawn for a few weeks.

Most Trending
Tyler was voted as the most trending house guest this week and selected The Cloud App. For the next two months if he feels that he is about t be put on the block he can sit in a cloud and prevents him from being nominated. This if for regular nominations and POV replacement nominations. He can only use it once so he has to know that he is going up instead of just guessing that he is going up.
Least Trending
Rachel was voted as the least trending house guest this week and selected the Yell Crap App. It is still unclear what is going to happen but at various times of the day for probably the next week someone is going to yell insults at Rachel over the intercom system. Could cause some mental issues especially since she believes America does not like her.
POV Meeting and Re-nomination
As expected, Tyler used the POV to take Winston off the block. As a result, Kaitlyn had to nominate a new house guest for eviction. Also, as expected, Kaitlyn nominated I thought I read that Tyler used his POV to remove Winston but he actually removed Scottie:
Chris.
Chris' side of the house is very confused at what is going on and somehow, at least for now believe they are still running the house under Chris and Faysal's leadership. As of now Chris will be evicted Thursday night and I am not expecting a close vote. Now that I have gotten this corrected with Winston still on the block I can understand why Chris and Faysal still believe they are in control of the house. In retrospect it is an odd move for Tyler to get rid of one of his team's vote. I still believe that Chris is going home, but this adds a new wrinkle.
Prelim Rankings:
15. Chris - Dead man walking. I see no way that he is going to survive this week. The only two house guests that have power (Tyler and Sam) want him out, so unless he pulls a miracle he is out.
14. Scottie - The only reason is he safe this week is because the target is squarely on Chris's back. He had a choice of which side to pick when Steve went out and he chose poorly.
13. Faysal - He is allied with Chris and still believes he controls the house. Going between Kaitlyn and Haleigh is what got Steve evicted and he doesn't seem to understand that.
12. Angie - She has not done a lot in this game and is allied with the wrong side of the house. She needs to start competing in the comps or start smoozing up to the other side of the house or she will be out before jury.
11. Bayleigh - She is in a sort of showmance with Chris as well as allied with him so her neck is on the line unless she can distance herself from him.
10. Haleigh - She has the best chance to get out of this side of the house and get in with Tyler's side. She has started to do that, so we shall see if she can get it done.
9. JC - He currently is not in any alliance but will vote with Tyler's side of the house.
8. Sam - She is allied with Tyler but not with his group. She is still an outcast in the house but still holds power for the next three weeks. That alone will keep her in the house.
7. Kaitlyn - She is the current HOH and is now allied with Tyler but she still has a knack for causing drama where there is not any or no need for any. This may have been her one HOH reign and she is doing it big, but she will be a target from here on out.
6. Kaycee - She is low man on the totem pole in Level 6 so she should be good for the next month. If she can start winning she will be good and safe for a long time.
5. Rachel - She could technically be ranked below Kaycee as she has done so little that she rewarded with Least Trending house guest this week.
4. Angela - She is doing enough to remain under the radar and allied to the right side of the house.
3. Brett - One of the bros he has yet to do much but that could change Thursday night.
2. Winston - Allowing himself to be put on the block just to back door Chris get's him near the top this week.
1. Tyler - He is control of this house right now. Now he also has an additional power. Even if the other side of the house gets HOH it's not a guarantee that they can get him out.
