NFL Rankings Week 4 2017-2018
We came within minutes last night of having no undefeated teams left in the NFL. Instead in some bizarre moments, the Chiefs scored 9 points in four seconds to beat Washington 29-20 and remain undefeated.
Elsewhere around the league we saw the Rams take down the Cowboys in Dallas. Tony Romo, for the record called that) The Rams are 3-1 and look nothing like the team that slogged through the season last year. They have a second year quarterback and a rookie head coach. There is not telling how long this streak will last.
The Raiders appear to be trending down. Not only have they lost their last two games, they also lost their starting quarterback, Derrick Carr, for at least the next two weeks.
I was wrong in my assessment that the winner of the Bengals-Browns game may still be ranked in the Bottom 4. Apparently in the NFL if your season is not going as planned you play the Browns. The Bengals offense had looked anemic in the first three games of the season. That changed against the Browns as they easily won 31-7.
New York and Los Angeles both have two teams. The Jets and Rams are a combined 5-3. The Giants and Chargers are a combined 0-8.
Onto the rankings:
Rankings
1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)
The Chiefs certainly did not look at the top of the world last night, but they did what they needed to do in order to win. I have said it before and I will say it again, the Chiefs are not a pretty football team, but they do just enough each week. Eventually that will catch up with them and most likely in the next five weeks as they take on some very good opponents.
Up next: at the Texans
2. Los Angeles Rams (3-1)
As mentioned above the Rams are playing some amazing football. The have score the most points of any NFL team, but their defense is beginning to look a little suspect. If anything falters and brings the Rams back down to earth it will be the defense first.
Up next: at home against the Seahawks
3. Buffalo Bills (3-1)
So far this season, the Bills have defeated the Falcons (the reigning NFC champs) and the Denver Broncos (who many assumed would be competing for the AFC championship this season). Their one slip up was against the Carolina Panthers and that was an ugly game on both sides of the ball.
Up next: at the Bengals
4. Philadelphia Eagles (3-1)
The Eagles have not exactly been world beaters, their one loss was to the Chiefs. In the past two weeks the have beaten two of the four winless teams in the league, however they keep winning and in the early part of the season that is the important part.
Up next: at home against the Cardinals
5. Green Bay Packers (3-1)
6. Detroit Lions (3-1)
7. Denver Broncos (3-1)
8. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)
9. Atlanta Falcons (3-1)
10. Carolina Panthers (3-1)
11. Tampa Bay Bucs (2-1)
12. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2)
13. Houston Texans (2-2)
14. Seattle Seahawks (2-2)
15. New Orleans Saints (2-2)
16. Washington (2-2)
17. Minnesota Vikings (2-2)
18. New York Jests (2-2)
19. Dallas Cowboys (2-2)
20. New England Patriots (2-2)
21. Oakland Raiders (2-2)
22. Arizona Cardinals (2-2)
23. Baltimore Ravens (2-2)
24. Tennessee Titans (2-2)
25. Chicago Bears (1-3)
26. Cincinnati Bengals (1-3)
27. Miami Dolphins (1-2)
28. Indianapolis Colts (1-3)
29. Los Angeles Chargers (0-4)
The Chargers are trending down. They are playing in a soccer stadium and cannot even fill it up. This team should be much better than they are. However outside of the game against the Chiefs that they lost by 2 touchdowns, they have lost their other 3 games by a combined 7 points. One of those losses was to the Eagles. They still have a chance to getting back on track but they would need to finish the season 8-4 just to finish the season at .500.
Up next: at the Giants
30. San Francisco 49ers (0-4)
The last two weeks have seen the 49ers come within a couple of points of winning their first game of the season. First against the Rams and then this week against the Cardinals. Things could change this week as they take on a Colts team that does not seem to have much offense without Andrew Luck.
Up next: at the Colts
31. New York Giants (0-4)
There is not much else I can say about the Giants than what I have already said. They lost two weeks ago by 3 and this week by 2. At some point they have to pick up a win simply due to the law of averages. That win could come this week against the Chargers, though the same could be said of them. Either way either the Giants or the Chargers will be leaving the Bottom 4 after this week (unless the manage to tie.
Next up: at home against the Chargers
32. Cleveland Browns (0-4)
Well the Browns are exactly who we thought they were. I honestly thought their best shot for a win would be against the Bengals and then they promptly were blown out. The Browns are up against the Jets, who during the preseason had the worst odds to win the Super Bowl, however they have started out decent this season. They could occupy the bottom spot for quite some time.
Up next: at home against the Jets
