NFL Rankings Week 2 2017-2018
So far this season has been a snooze, combined with bad football. People want to point at a myriad of issues why ratings for the NLF are down (some even want to say that there is still a boycott - protest if you will - over Colin Kaepernick's anthem protest from last season. However, the truth is the games on the field this year have been atrocious. There are a few teams shining but everyone else is just putting an inferior product on the field.
After Week 1 the Rams and Jaguars looked poised for surprise run through the NFL. This week both teams fell back to earth with a thud. The Jags were demolished by the Titans and the Rams somehow found a way to lose to the embarrassing team out of DC.
There is a lot being made out of the fact that both the Rams and Chargers both played at home this week and combined still did not have as many fans at their games as showed up for the USC-Texas game the night before. This is especially embarrassing for the Rams who share the stadium with the Trojans. For me it is simple: college football currently has a much better product on the field than the NFL (plus neither the Chargers or Rams look to be competitive for the Super Bowl this year). What makes it even worse for the Chargers is that they moved to LA in the off season and apparently forgot to make sure they were even wanted. The news brought an audible "meh" from the citizens of LA when they announced the move.
Rankings
1. Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
The Chiefs are now 2-0 after a very pedestrian win over the Eagles. They are still the team to beat in the AFC after their dismantling of New England in Week 1. In Week 3 they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers. This SHOULD be any easy win for the Chiefs, but nothing is ever clear cut in the AFC West.
2. Baltimore Ravens (2-0)
The Ravens move up to number 2 this week with the plummet of the Jags and Rams. Even better for them is that they have only allowed 10 points in two weeks (an average of 5 points a game). Their defense is typically one of the top defenses in the league and this year looks no different. They face the Jags this week which should be another defense bonanza for them.
3. Carolina Panthers (2-0)
So far this year the Panthers have looked every bit the team people were expecting last year. They have only given up two fields in their first two games, but let's face it they have not exactly faced offensive juggernauts in the first two weeks (Bills and 49ers). This week they get the Saints and we SHOULD see a lot more scoring in this game. If not, the Panthers may be looking like the best team in the league.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)
The Steelers looked iffy in their first game escape of the hapless Browns in a 21-18 win. They were running on all cylinders against the Vikings, however. Sam Bradford was out (again) with an injury (again). Otherwise the score might have been much closer. The Steelers get the Ravens this week and one of these teams will fall from the ranks of the unbeaten (unless they manage to go all the way through the sudden death overtime without scoring.
5. Denver Broncos (2-0)
6. Detroit Lions (2-0)
7. Oakland Raiders (2-0)
8. Atlanta Falcons (2-0)
9. Tampa Bay Bucs (1-0)
10. Miami Dolphins (1-0)
11. LA Rams (1-1)
12. Tennessee Titans (1-1)
13. Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)
14. Buffalo Bills (1-1)
15. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1)
16. New England Patriots (1-1)
17. Green Bay Packers (1-1)
18. Seattle Seahawks (1-1)
19. Washington (1-1)
20. Minnesota Vikings (1-1)
21. Dallas Cowboys (1-1)
22. Arizona Cardinals (1-1)
23. Houston Texans (1-1)
24. New Orleans Saints (0-2)
25. Los Angeles Chargers (0-2)
26. Cleveland Browns (0-2)
27. Chicago Bears (0-2)
28. New York Jets (0-2)
29. Indianapolis Colts (0-2)
The Colts are showing what happens when you go from a top notch QB to losing him. Andrew Luck has still not been cleared to play and there really seems to be no timetable for his return. So for now, welcome to the cellar. They do have the Browns this week and could actually win.
30. New York Giants (0-2)
The New York football Giants should not be this bad. They have a 2 time winning Super Bowl QB in Eli Manning and one of the best receivers in the game in Odel Beckham Jr. However, that is about all they have. They are a dumpster fire at the moment and do not see any chance of improving. Thy travel to Philly this week with a tilt against the Eagles. I do not see a win this week for them. The Giants scored a TD for the first time since last season in the 3rd quarter this week.
31. San Francisco 49ers (0-2)
The 49ers have scored a total of 12 points this season with the bulk (9) coming this week against the Seahawks. Brian Hoyer has yet to throw for a TD, in fact, the offense has yet to score a TD this season. They have the Rams this week and are staring 0-3 right in the eye.
32. Cincinnati Bengals (0-2)
Seriously how does an NFL team get through the first two games of the seasons without being in the double digits with scoring. The Bengals have managed this with a total of 9 points (all scored this week). There is not a worse team right now than the Bengals. With the Packers coming up this week, things will not improve for the team.
