NFL Rankings Week 1
hat a horrible week for opening weekend for the NFL. The offenses were anemic and the games were so boring they were unwatchable. The only two surprises from the week is the beat down that Chiefs put on the Patriots and the beat down the Rams put on the Colts. Miami and Tampa Bay did not play this week because of the Hurricane Irma. On to the rankings
1. Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City put a complete beat down of the defending champs New England Patriots in the second half of their Thursday night opening game. At one point in the 1st half it very much looked like the Patriots were going to run away with the game but Kansas City was able to get some breaks their way an went into the half only trailing 17-14. The second half was a complete blowout as the Chiefs outpaced the Patriots 28-10 for a final of 42-27.
2. Los Angeles Rams
I am not sure what to make of the Rams. They are not supposed to be as good as the score indicates against the Indianapolis Colts. They absolutely took it to the Colts 46-9 and the game was never close. Whether this is more of an indication of how good the Rams are going to be or how bad the Colts are going to be is up in the air. For the moment the Rams get to spend at least one week at the top of the rankings.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars
After the first week is typically the only time teams like the Rams and Jaguars look good. They took on the Texans and won easily. This could be more of an indication that most of the Texans are still trying to cope with hurricane damage. Time will tell.
4. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens were the only team to keep another team complete off the board, beating the Cincinnati Bengals 20-0. Going into the game the "experts" thought the Bengals team was much better than the Ravens. That is why they play the game folks.
5. Carolina Panthers
6. Dallas Cowboys
7. Philadelphia Eagles
8. Detroit Lions
9. Minnesota Vikings
10. Oakland Raiders
11. Buffalo Bills
12. Green Bay Packers
13. Atlanta Falcons
14. Denver Broncos
15. Pittsburgh Steelers
16. (tie) Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The game was postponed due to Hurricane Irma. They are the only teams without a game under their belts.
18. New England Patriots
19. Cleveland Browns
20. Chicago Bears
21. Seattle Seahawks
22. New Orleans Saints
23. Tennessee Titans
24. Arizona Cardinals
25. Washington Redskins
26. Los Angeles Chargers
27. Houston Texans
28. New York Jets
The final four teams in this weeks rankings scored a combined 15 points. That is horrible offense. Three of those teams (Colts, Giants, and Bengals) have long established quarterbacks. Not good.
29. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are currently without Andrew Luck and it showed. They managed one touchdown (a rushing one for that matter). The Rams typically have a decent defense (even when they are horrible) but not one that completely shuts down another team's offense. 9 points is just flat out horrible.
30. New York Giants
The Giants score an impressive 3 points against the Dallas Cowboys. Sarcasm of course. I am not sure how a team that has a two time winning Super Bowl quarterback on it's team can not produce points. Yes, they were without OBJ, but still Eli Manning, once upon a time, was a good quarterback.
31. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers dumped Colin Kaepernick because they did not want to deal with the (self inflicted) headache of his protests. Now I am sure they would love to have him back as he is a talented quarterback. Since his departure their has not been a decent quarterback under center. Their defense is also atrocious. The 49ers have always been an oddity to me. They follow up good runs in the league (Super Bowl champions) with just utter deplorable teams.
32. Cincinnati Bengals
You probably expected the Jets to pull up the rear in the rankings considering they have the longest odds to win the Super Bowl. However. the Bengals somehow managed to not put a single point against an aging Ravens defense. At one point Andy Dalton was the highest paid quarterback in the league, now he does not seem to have the talent to be a back up.
