Big Brother 19 Week 1 Recap and Updates
The first week of Big Brother 19 has been one of the wildest weeks I can remember in the Big Brother house. Part of it has to do with the introduction of temptations throughout the season that can completely change the course of a game in one week. There has already been a swap out, a self eviction, and an injury.
First temptation
The very first temptation for the house guests was a chance for $25,000. All the house guests needed to do was push a button. However, the temptation also came with a consequence for the rest of the house. Kevin was the only person to push his button so he got the $25,000. The consequence for the house was two fold; Paul form season 18 came into the house and he was coming in at the expense of another house guest, meaning that a house guest would be eliminated on the first night. After a competition and friendship bracelets, that you can read here, Cameron, Christmas, and Jillian ended up with the three poisoned apples. They got to vote whether the elimination would occur in competition or by vote of the other house guests. Christmas and Jillian both voted for votes, while Cameron voted for competition. Cameron was swapped out by a vote of 8-3-2. Cameron went the way of other past house guests that have been eliminated on the first night (much like the Mr. Irrelevant in the NFL draft).
Head of Household competition and all hell breaks loose
In the first HOH competition the house guests were split into teams of four. The goal was for the top 2 teams to get the most number of apples from one side to the other. Part of Kevin's temptation was that he was supposed to throw the competition. He did not have to as Josh went for the golden apple. The golden apple gave him safety for the week while eliminating his team from the competition. Kevin never even got to go. After the competition Josh for reasons still unknown went after Megan, calling her a snake and a bully. So, before the first HOH was even named he had already put two huge targets on himself. Cody and Paul's teams advanced to the final and those two had to balance apples on a very wobbly tree. Cody won becoming the first HOH of the summer.
For his nominations he put up Megan and Jillian. When nomination Megan he told her he just did not like her. When nominating Jillian he told her that she was guilty by association (this becomes a theme for Cody). The day after nomination Jessica referred to Alex as Pao Pao. Alex does look a lot like Pao Pao from a previous season. For some reason Megan went to Alex and told her that Jessica had called her panda. Paul decided to cause a stir and went to Jessica and told her that Megan told Alex that Jessica had called her panda. This caused an argument between the three and Megan went to the diary room and self-evicted herself. She later released a statement that she was suffering from PTSD.
Because of this Cody was forced to put up a replacement nominee which was Alex.
Den of temptation
Throughout the season viewers will be able to vote to offer house mates a temptation. Week 1s temptation was three weeks of safety. Paul won the temptation and accepted. This, of course led to a consequence for one or more houseguests. Before leaving the den of temptation Paul had to select a bottle with a number behind it. When the house guests went in for the second part the second person (as selected by Paul) into the room would get the consequence. This turned out to be Ramses and his consequence was that some time in the next three weeks he had to put himself on the block. Paul did not tell anyone that he had gotten safety
Power of Veto competition and all hell breaks loose again
During the POV comp Cody appeared to throw the competition for Alex to win. She, of course, pulled herself off the block which meant Cody had to nominate someone else. Before the POV Cody had built a nine person alliance; himself, Jessica, Mark, Elena, Raven, Matt, Christmas, Dominique, and Paul. At the POV nomination Cody nominated Paul to the block. At this point Paul had to reveal that he was safe for the next three weeks and Cody would have to nominate someone else, which turned out to be Christmas.
At this point Cody completely destroyed his own alliance and Christmas made sure that everyone knew it.
Christmas gets injured
Early Monday morning Christmas and Jason were outside training. For some reason Jason was carrying Christmas when he slipped and fell. Christmas landed awkwardly on her foot which broke two bones. She has elected to stay in the house and is still up for eviction this week.
Eviction prediction
I believe as it stands right now Jillian is going to be evicted either 7-5 or 8-4. The live feeds are now off in preparation for the live show tonight. Typically if anything changes this is when it happens. With it still being up in the air going into the black out we could get to the live show and have a completely different outcome.
Recap
Swapped out - Cameron
Self evicted - Megan
HOH - Cody
Noms - Alex and Jillian
POV - Alex
Replacement Nom - Christmas
Rankings
15. Jillian
Jillian has done no campaigning since being on the block. She has not attempted to get anyone to vote to save her letting Alex do it. Instead she just talks trash about anyone she feels is going to vote to keep Christmas. She has no game at all and should be evicted tonight
14. Jody
Cody completely blew up his own game by refusing to talk game before the POV ceremony. Many house guests have said that if he would have at least talked to them about it they may have gone along. He also said before the season that he was unable to lie yet has done nothing but lie for the first week of the show. Either he had a steep learning curve once he got in the house or he was lying about lying going into the house. Plus, he has shown himself not to be a very decent human being, joking that he went to riots in Ferguson, simply to cause trouble. Jessica, instead of trying to campaign on behalf of Cody has decided to threaten other players if they do not vote the way Cody wants them to vote. She has essentially drawn a line in the sand with her and Cody on one side of the house and the rest of the house on the other side.
Cody and Jessica have spent most of the week in the HOH room. They have not participated in any group activities and when Christmas came back into the house on two separate occasions they refused to check on her. Most of the house mates agree that it was very disrespectful of them and power gameship.
12. Josh
Josh, by all rights, should be the next person out of the game. His attitude and overall creepiness has not improved as the days have gone on. Fortunately for him Cody's actions this week have dimmed the light that was squarely on him.
11. Ramses
Ramses has been fairly decent in his social game but he does have a level of creepiness and stalking that is rubbing people the wrong way. He attempts to eavesdrop on other conversations but he is so bad at it that he has gotten caught every time. Not to mention he has to nominate himself for the block some time in the next three weeks and he is in a bad place.
10. Raven
Raven has exactly the social game I thought she would. However she does not seem to have much else for her game. She has linked herself to Matt but that will only get her so far. She did win season safety from Have-Not in the POV competition though.
9. Jason
Jason is too paranoid for his own good. He has absolute safety at least until jury on Paul's side of the house, yet feels beholden to Cody's side because he thinks he was promised safety this week, despite it being an empty promise. He also has a mark against him is that he led to Christmas' injury and is considering voting her out.
8. Kevin
Kevin has become the dad of the Big Brother house. Everyone loves him and he has a great social game. We have not seen anything of him in competitions as of yet and that is keeping him in the middle of the pack.
7. Mark
Mark seems to be having issues deciding who he wants to side with. He does have a final two deal with Cody but after Cody's actions Mark is not sure what to do. He should be a competition beast but he is very awkward socially which could hurt his game.
6. Elena
Elena has very quietly built a very strong social game. She realized after Paul and then Christmas were nominated that she would have been third on that list and quickly distanced herself from Cody. If she can perform in physical games she could be one of the stronger females in the game. She has had more wardrobe malfunctions in the first week of this game than I think that last two season combined.
5. Dominique
Dominique so far has kept her emotions in check and even sniffed out some of the issues with Cody before they came to light. She was the first to side with Paul after the POV and has positioned herself in a perfect position.
4. Alex
Alex has already proven herself to be a beast at competitions. Her social game is a bit off and for the moment she is on the wrong side of the house in loyalty to Jillian. She should be fine after this week as the only person targeting her is Jessica and I do not see Jessica coming into power any time soon.
3. Matt
Matt is exactly who I thought he was. He makes light situations that have gotten too serious and constantly cracks jokes. His social game will save him and keep him out of pointless arguments. He quickly broke with Cody after Cody blew up his game.
2. Christmas
Christmas is a beast and she is likely to get herself past this week. Personally the other players would be foolish to vote her off because of her injury. With her in the house that is one less person they have to compete against in physical comps. Christmas is playing this perfect at this point while still campaigning to stay in the house. She has aligned herself with Paul which is the best move.
1. Paul
There is a reason Paul finished second last season. He knows when to turn on the charm and can get himself out of sticky situations. He is the heavy favorite to win the season. Only a couple of people seem to even want him out of the house at the moment, so he is sitting pretty.
Eviction
By a vote of 8-4 Jillian was evicted from the house to the shock to at least Jillian and Cody. Jillian stated that she thought the house was deadlocked and Cody would break the tie and send Christmas home. She did absolutely no campaigning in the house choosing to talk trash about half the house instead. Even in her interview after being evicted she had to stop herself from doing it again. That is the reason you barely saw her in any of the shows on TV, she was hardly there.
Votes:
Jillian - Paul, Josh, Kevin, Matt, Mark, Raven, Dominique, Elena
Christmas - Jessica, Jason, Alex, Ramses
I was unsure if Mark was being serious about keeping Christmas around or just showing for the group, turns out he was serious. I am really surprised that Kevin decided to switch his vote as he had said all week he was going to vote to evict Christmas. I had thought that Jason may vote to keep Christmas in after causing the accident that broke Christmas' foot, but I guess he decided that an empty promise by Cody to keep him safe for one week (Cody never intended to put Jason on the block) was more important.
Jessica decided to get into a verbal spat with Christmas after the eviction. Christmas called out Jessica and Cody for lying to her about being safe. In Jessica's defense she had no idea what Cody's plans were, but because she decided to stay with Cody most of the house believes that she did know about the plan from the start and there is little she can do to change that. Getting into a verbal argument immediately after the eviction will not help her. Unless she gets HOH this week she is on the cutting block to go home.

Head of Household
To promote their new game show Candy Crush, the competition was inspired by the game where the house mates had to find tickets among different kinds of candy and then use those tickets to gain game balls and roll them down a ramp with the goal of getting the ball in a hole. Christmas, despite having a broken ankle/foot did participate in the comp.
Paul was the first to get his ball in a hole becoming the HOH for the week. He has already hatched his plan for the week with this alliance to backdoor Cody. He plans to put Kevin and Raven on the block and hope that Cody and/or Jessica do not get selected for the POV comp or if they do, loose and then nominate Cody as the replacement (after probably removing Raven). This is not set in stone by any means.
Den of Temptation
Christmas has told Paul that she got and accepted the newest temptation, which is the Ring of Replacement. What this means is that if she wants to play in a Power of Veto comp at any point in the summer she can use the ring and replace another player. Kind of a wasted vote by the viewers considering she has a broken foot. She also told Paul that she got to choose three players to be cursed which were Jessica, Cody, and Ramses. At this point it is unknown what the curse will be, but this Ramses' second curse in a row (if true) - EDIT - It appears that Christmas actually picked Jason instead of Ramses.
HOH Nominations
Paul nominated Alex and Josh for eviction. As expected this a complete change from his original plan of Matt and Raven, but he still has his goal of backdooring Cody. Back to an earlier point with Christmas having the Ring of Replacement, if Cody or Jessica do get picked for the POV Comp she could use the ring take either out and then throw the comp, which would work in the favor of herself and Paul to make sure the backdoor stays in play. Ramses, as expected, did go ahead and nominate himself. It is still unclear at this point that if Ramses wins the POV and takes himself off whether or not Paul would be able to nominate someone in his place. I do not think so, as this is a punishment to Ramses and he was not put up by Paul. We shall see.
This is Alex's 2nd nomination and first for both Josh and Ramses.
Potential Curse outcome
The feeds went off for about half an hour and when they came back on Jessica, Cody, and Jason were wearing frog suits. They have to jump from lily pad to lily pad wherever they go and they have to wear the suits for a week. They are collectively called VeToad. I believe this is the curse playing out for Christmas taking the Temptation, but we will find out for sure, probably on Sunday.
POV Comp
As expected Paul did win the POV though it sounds like Ramses did attempt to win it to take himself off the block. Paul still has not decided who to take off the block and put Cody up. At this point it sounds like he is going to let Alex and Josh decide, though he is leaning to taking Josh off the block.
POV Ceremony
As expected again Paul used the POV to remove Josh from the block and put Cody up. As long as Paul does not come up with some insane theories Cody should be on his way out the door.
New injury update
At some point today Raven took a tumble down the spiral staircase (she has warned many times that she is a klutz) and injured her head, elbow, and foot. I believe the severest injury was to her foot which will need stitches. At some point today Christmas left for her surgery. She will either be back tonight or sometime in the morning. With the next comp being an endurance comp that is two potential allies for Team Paul out which while does not knock them out of contention for the next HOH seriously hinders their chances. It will essentially be up to Mark and Matt. Josh is still a chance for them but he is low man on the totem poll with a propensity for rash decision making.
