As soon as President Obama unveiled plans to bomb Syria I was filled with great sorrow and anger. This country does not need another war even if it is bombing certain targets. While I am satisfied that he is going before Congress to get permission I am very hopeful that it will fail horribly.

We are not the world's police. While I obviously feel despair that people are being killed (whether by the Syrian government or by Syrian rebels) by gas attacks it is an issue that does not affect us. It is not something that we should be involved in.

I have to admit that I was astonished to see the Arab League actually come out in support of the United States bombing Syria

Of course, I would be remiss, if I did not talk about the red in the face hypocrisy coming from across the aisle in the political world. Fox News, conservative media, and conservatives in Congress all demanded that Obama gain permission from Congress before any action in Syria, as laid out in the Constitution. Now all of a sudden those same people are saying that Obama going before Congress for permission shows just how week on foreign policy he really is. Which leads me to say once again that if Obama came out and stated that the sun rose in the east most Republicans would call him an idiot and claim that it naturally raises in the west.

The supposed "liberals" in Congress are not clean in this either. They are coming out lock, stock, and barrel in support for the limited air strikes against Syria. As it stands right now Obama does not have the support in Congress to actually get that approval, so hopefully this all dies down. However, I doubt that.

In other news, football is back, so there's that.

Jury still out on Arkansas though they did look good in their first game. OU's defense looks like it could be the smashmouth D that defined them in the early 00s. Nebraska better figure out their defense or this is going to be LONG season

Believe Obama's positioning made a peaceful solution

a negotiating possibility and looking like a reality. He went out on a limb and may just bring home a peaceful solution.

Diplomacy has won out to tIt his point and that is a good thing no matter how you want to spin it. If Russia wants to take the lead that is just fine and dandy. As I have stated we are not the world's police, if Russia wants to do it more power to them.

It does make this country look weak we have our own problems at home that we need to fix (for example the crumbling infrastructure).

If you, like many people, are struggling to see why the president wants Assad overthrown, maybe I can help with some information.

President Assad is blocking construction of a natural gas pipeline through Syria, which would transport gas from Iran and Qatar to Europe. This gas would compete with natural gas from Russia. Russia has a virtual monopoly on gas supplies to Europe now.

So Putin and Russia back President Assad. Europe and President Obama back the rebels (which includes elements of our sworn enemyAl Quada).

By the way, Assad was elected president, and we're all about democracy generally, But not when overruled by economic considerations.
